30 months p/o - painful gas

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

A little history - I am 30 months post op/sleeve. I have had great success, but recently put back on 20 pounds. That isn't such a big deal to me as I still surpassed my surgeon's goal, but I am working to get it off.

My question is, has anyone at this stage experience painful gas and bloating? It's every time I eat, and sometimes just out of the blue. I am also on protonix, which helped initially about 6 mos-1 year after surgery. I've actually experience these problems for sometime, I just thought it was normal - but now its gotten so much worse. It doesn't seem anything will help...tums or rolaids might help a little, but not for long.

I haven't contacted my surgeon's office yet - he is actually now out of network with my insurance. I may ask my PCP to schedule an endoscopy.

Advice please????

I am 7 months behind you and every time I eat I belch constantly and my throat makes weird noises and there is nothing I can do about it. So I rarely eat out because of it. Mine started after I got scoped and never went away, it could of been coincidence that it started at that time for me. Hope you get some relief.

I’m 10 years post op rxy bypass and still have severe gas pains. It’s so bad right now that I couldn’t go to work. The pain comes and goes in time clusters. I’ll be fine for a couple of months and then I’ll suffer every day for a few weeks and then it’ll go away again for a few months. There’s no rhyme or reason to the occurrence and no patterns I can detect. I’m desperate to figure out a solution.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
