Stomach doesn’t feel smaller

Recommended Posts

I’m a week post op and I’m starting to get scared that my stomach wasn’t put small enough. I can drink the Protein Shakes without ever feeling full and I have to stop myself or I’ll drink the whole 8 ounces without feeling discomfort or full. I had a Soup tonight that was from BariWise and I ate 6 ounces of it and still didn’t feel full even though it was a more dense liquid. Idk what to do. I’m scared that it wasn’t done right.

Eat or drink slowly. I learned this with the lap band. Allow your stomach to send the full message which takes 15-20 minutes. Sip slowly. Then keep full with Water water water. I'm not sure how quickly you are drinking but my morning Protein Drink takes me about 30 minutes or more. I have to remind myself to put it down do something then come back to it.

Liquid passes straight through. Once you start solids things will feel different.

I remember being utterly convinced they had cut me open, sewed me up, and forgotten to do the important part!

But I soon realised, everything about my stomach and eating was suddenly very different!

I am a month out. I felt the same way. I can drink more liquid than they said I'd be able to. I didnt get a full feeling when I drank. But around week three, I started to. While I can feel satisfied with liquids now, I still can get more in at a time than they said. I dont know why it took a couple of weeks to start feeling it. And solid foods, even mushy, was a different story. A few bites and I have to sit back and wait before I can attempt more. I also felt hungry the first 2 weeks. After the second week, nothing. I dont feel hungry nor do I really desire to eat. I have noticed at times I envy something someone is eating, and I think I really want it. But I have recently realized that it's in my head. I only think and tell myself I want it. The actual craving isnt there.

Best of luck.

the above posters are right - you'll feel the restriction when you start eating solid food.

Liquid is suppose to pass through or you wouldn't get hydrated properly. If you're able to drink without discomfort, that's a good thing. You'll see the difference once you start eating solid foods. I sometimes wonder whether my stomach was made small enough since I feel like I still can eat a lot---but then I try to east a burger and I am full after 6oz (I am 7 months post-op). I can still eat plenty, which is a good thing to be honest. You want to be able to eat healthy foods and have a healthy lifestyle. The biggest changes are hormonal and that's what really drives weight loss. The mechanical restriction is only a part of the process. In the end, I can't argue with the results. I am down almost 80 pounds in seven months and I am in the best shape of my life! No regrets here!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
