I’m just at the beginning of my path and I do some sort of research every day. I’m in a 12 week “Healthy Weight” class required by my insurance before I even talk to the bariatric department. I can call the bariatric department once I’m half way through the 12 weeks.

I’m still not 100% sure I’ll have wls. That is why I keep reading the boards, books, and watching videos. I want to be as sure as I can before I make my final decision. I want to do so with my eyes open to the risks and -realistic- benefits. In the meantime, I’ve cut out almost all sugar, went low carb, measure my portions and work out 5 times a week. I’ve lost 31 lb in the last 2 months! I have a lot more weight to lose but this helps me imagine what life might be like after surgery. It helps thinking that these changes are life now, not the exception. It makes me feel more positive I could handle life after wls.

You should be proud of your changes.

I've been asked to do up to 4 weeks preop so I assume I'll lose some myself before going under the knife.

People say why go under if you can lose yourself?

Well the surgery is about more than just weight loss the bypass will change everything internally for us.

Yes, but even more importantly as a subcategory of "changing everything internally", it changes EVERYTHING hormonally!! And this resets our metabolism, lowers our set point and allows us to maintain our weight a little easier at that new lower set point. This is a huge differentiator!

This is very very normal. I did the same thing before I got my surgery date which is 8/26/19.

Yep! Add me to the obsessed list lol. Before I even had a referral all I did was research, research, research haha. From forums to YouTube it’s literally all i did. I find out my surgery date on Thursday and I really wish I would have made this decision a lot earlier💗

Raising my hand. I am an outlier and fascinated with nutrition and fitness. I am addicted to the baraitricpal drama and comedy. Its all good if it keeps me maintianing years out.

yes, a few months out still and i’m doing the research and watching things and doing what i can to be as ready as possible. it’s a major life change and i want to have the best chance of success possible! also a massive positive investment in myself which is different, so doing all i can to make this investment count and pay off 😀

You'll find that by watching all the videos, you will know what kind of information is out there. Later, as you go through a stall, or have questions, you will go back and watch them again and the information will be very helpful for the current situation.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
