Food stuck...Weight Loss Goals

Recommended Posts

Yesterday...I ate a Kabob with beef. It was so good that I went to my old habits and 1 bite and swallow technique. Man, did I pay for that, the beef got stuck and drinking Water only made it worst. I was at a party and walked away fast to a corner where no one could see me and barely made it before it all came up. I stayed there for a few mins while I could barely breathe and my eyes teared up. I kept vomiting for at least 10 mins. The pain kept coming back. I left the party with my wife and pulled over a few times on the way home to vomit again and relieve some of the pain and pressure in my stomach.

I know I'm not suppose to eat fast and chew chew chew to small portions but sometimes I forget and repeat my bad habits that I've done for 44 years of my life. I finally made it home and hust laid on my stomach for about 1 hour before I finally felt better again. Started out with small sips of water before I continued tosoft foods later on that night. I am Post Op 6 months now Bariatric Sleeve surgery. Surgery Date was Jan3,2019 in Orange,Calif at St Josephs by Dr Pham. Heaviest was 340, surgery date was 332. As of today , I am 248, for a loss of 84 lbs 6 months out. I wore pants at a size 46-48 pre op but now I wear pants at 38 which I haven't been abke to squeeze in since high school...LOL. Shirts were a 5x but now at 2x. Dr. Pham is the same age as me and is one of the best bariatric surgeons out there. His team is phenomenal and really help you pre and post op, Especially Elena. She works in the office and is highly educated in the whole process and will help guide you from beginning to end and there after.

This is a real struggle for me too. My bites are too big and it is really hard to chew long enough. Being less distracted and focusing on just eating is one way to help it, but a lifetime habit is hard to break, as you said.

You're doing GREAT! Keep up the good work! I need to slow down my eating.

Been there, done that... you WILL remember that! Some textures just do that, could not eat lettuce until recently. Beef has to be well marbled or ground beef - even then it sits there hard on my sleeve sometimes.

You are doing great!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
