Bowel Prep - Gastric Bypass tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

I am currently drinking this bowel prep. I was prescribed the Peg 3350, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarb & Potassium Chloride solution. It is 4 Liters, but the directions say most only need 3 Liters before the BMs are clear Water without solids. Anyone had experience with this? I am at 1.5 liters and am having a hard time getting anything else in >.<

Congrats on surgery tomorrow.

Yep, I had a colonoscopy after sleeve surgery. It was no fun getting the colon prep in. I took small sips, stayed near the bathroom and got it all in by the end of the night.

Drink it all. You got this! So excited for you!!! I thought that part was going to be so awful but it was tolerable.

Sent from my LG-Q710AL using BariatricPal mobile app

Thank you so much!

This stuff is awful! It says drink 8oz every 10 minutes. Im more like a glass every 20...Having the hardest time with it. I am sure this is the least of my worries but it is still tough!

I didn’t have to do a bowel prep for my gastric bypass surgery because I think the 2 week pre op diet probably took care of everything but I have done a few before colonoscopies... not fun. Good luck with your surgery.

I don’t have to do any bowel prep before my op, there were just the normal fasting before anaesthesia requirements. IMO making you do that is cruel and unnecessary punishment. Bowel prep is awful and usually only necessary for colonoscopies etc. I know when I had mine it felt like someone had poured acid on my ring, wiping was the worst pain ever.

I got 2.5 liters in. It says to stop when clear and no solids. No solids but not clear... I can’t imagine that it will ever be “clear”

I just chugged it really fast to get it over with. I felt nauseated and had serious heat and chill flashes (which they said was normal) but felt fine after everything passed. But the taste was awful so I figured the quicker I drink the less I’ll have to taste it 😂

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
