How many calories do you eat a day?

Recommended Posts

Yes! Me too! I will be 6 weeks out as of tomorrow. I feel like I don’t even have a pouch. I want to get an X-ray to be sure. lol. I too stop from eating because I don’t want to stretch my pouch. I am getting about 500/600 calories a day. My nutritionist got promoted so I’m on my own til they find a replacement. I need to know if I’m doing the right things. I have no guidelines like I did with the sleeve. I know I am to eat less. But how much less because I don’t get full.

When me and my nutritionist were going over my guidelines after the liquid phase she brought out the 1/3 cup and said I shouldn't eat more than that. I gotta tell you I was shocked because it seemed so minuscule compared to what I used to eat. So I told her it seems like I could eat more! She pointed to her head with her finger and said that's all in your head. Eating more than that is giving into head hunger. And she was right my mind will still tell me that's not enough when I visually see it but when I eat I'm constantly waiting for the cues of being satisfied/full and stop eating immediately when they come. It's usually before I've eatin the whole 1/3 C.

I am 8 months out and eat 700-800 calories a day. I work out 6 times per week, 2 days with a trainer doing weights/HIIT, 3 cycling classes, 1 yoga class.

I stop before I feel full because the sensation of full is different now and I don't want to stretch out my pouch. Here is my Portion Control guidelines. Hope this helps 😊

14 months out, I am eating 2650 calories a day which is still 187 calories below my BMR. So I am still losing, just slowing it down because I want to cruise into 250 and stay there.

I haven’t moved past drinking mostly a Protein Shake a day (30 grams Protein in the morning) and some BariatricPal Soups and a couple of times their protein Pasta. Also when I need it their protein juice drinks. I get around 50 grams of protein and average 300-400 calories the highest being 480. I started writing down each day what I’ve had and calories plus protein. I’m trying to track a few medical issues that have come up.

I started the RNY journey due to metabolic disorders. My body doesn’t burn enough calories as it should at rest. I’m hoping that the RNY will help that. I’d love to just eat like a normal person. It was getting ridiculous, I was fighting so hard to maintain the weight I’d lost on my own and watched it steadily climb despite my efforts. And seeing my mom eating nearly the same and be half my weight. She could have sweet treats and fruits as well.

It’s always been hard for me to be able to understand how normal people can eat 1,200 calories for weight loss and I would gain.

I was eating around 800/calories a day but my weight loss has stopped, so I'm trying something new by increasing the calories. Yesterday I had 1350. I might hit 1200 today. We'll see how it goes. I'm 7 months post-op.

I'm 17 months out. Very slow metabolism. I walk 60 minutes and aim for 6 days per week and do some very undisciplined movement/core exercises a couple times per week.

I'm presently working on my Goal #3 of 130lbs. Weight loss is super duper slow these last 20lbs. For me to lose I'm at 650-850 but generally 650-700. I keep it to 1cup volume at meals, aim for 0-1 snack if absolutely necessary and get between 55-60ish grams Protein daily mostly from food.

I maintain easily in a range of 900-1100 with some days back at the low end of 650.

I happened to find this study (2018) that was looking at exactly this question (but was comparing RNY and lapband 3 months out from surgery):

https://www.oatext.com/pattern-of-calorie-and-macronutrient-intake-after-bariatric-surgery-in-patient-with-obesity-a-clinical-trial.php

"After one month, patients educated to have 800-1000 low fat, protein-rich regular diet and allowed to increase their intake to 1000-1200 kilocalorie per day 3 months after surgery."

They also mentioned that patients from other studies were not reaching the recommended Protein intake.

A really academic read but if you are into that kind of stuff, it's interesting.

Lately about 1,200 a day. I work out with a personal trainer 2x per week and walk on my treadmill most days.

Not enough. I'm a bad girl, so my usual tactic is to not think about it, take my Vitamins and hope for the best. I cheat sometimes by giving calories and Calcium a boost with a few ounces of Meyenberg goat milk... When I get too low, believe me my body lets me know!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
