2 week pre-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

Well I did mine for the entire month of August 2018. i did get a little out of energy about 4'5 days in but then my b9dy caugh5 it's "second wind" as long as I kept my fluids up and didn't try running, jogging ( which 8 barely can do with 2 replaced knees) or moving fast i didn't do too bad. I. also real8zed that I was permitted one 300 calorie or less meal in the evening, after nearly toppling over, I started adding it in the first Saturday, before that I was putting me through total liquid before. Did it work? Oh Yeah, I lost 15 pounds, took my liver from
fat N.A.S.H.-hood to smooth sleek healthy LIVERHOOD,ME AT 72 with natural Basal Metabolism Rate of a Sick Sea 🐌 Slug. Since my liver was small and pliable my surgeon Didn't have to use the Industrial strength and Sized liver retractor, easier for him, easier recovery for me. Would I do it again? Yep for the rewards are so worth it! At almost 10 months, will be on July 5th, I have gone from a Surgery Weight of 319 to 198.7, now out of Plus sizes and into 18-20, mostly all 18 top and bottom after starting at 28-30W basically the largest Wally World carried, and many of my sweats which I pretty much lived in ,that and a few t-shirts were mens 4x. So I am D***Proud of an 18, my looks in mirrors have changed so much I barely recognize myself any more but I have bought myself some more years, even if I growl a little at times, it beats being planted underground, only being a memory or picture on the wall, oh no MY. ornery strawberry blonde self is still here mak8ng my way to what ever God has planned for men And I will never be counted out, deprecated or ignored again! I may not be Living Large but I live grateful for the chance to live, vibrantly and with a SMILE 😝on my face.

My pre-op diet was done in 2 phases. For a month I was on 3 ensure shakes a day plus one high protein/low carb meal and fruit or veg for Snacks. That was actually harder than the second phase, the last two weeks. Five shakes a day with 200 calories of fresh veg snacks.

Honestly, it goes by pretty quick. I wasn't perfect on my pre-op diet, but I stayed as close as I could to their recommendations and it really did the job. My weight was lower than what my surgeon required, and surgery went super smooth.

You can do this! Just another step on your journey to health!

The first week was pretty easy because you don't really want to eat and you're still recovering. The second week you'll start wanting some texture and get a little hungry, but it's perfectly doable and not that bad. Just keep sipping, sipping, sipping on stuff all day long.

Do you even need to do such a diet on your program, or are you basing your fears on what others post that they go through? Many programs don't do liquid diets, or any at all (some docs don't even want their patients doing them.)

If you do, as others have related, you get used to it after a few days; if you don't, follow what your program directs and don't worry about what others do - there are many ways for this to work.

Doing my two week pre op Liquid meals and I must admit that after two days, it’s still tuff! Lol You soon learn that not wanting to eat and being REQUIRED not to eat can play with your mind. You start noticing that every other commercial is showing food!! Lmao! You really have to have a strong constitution and be committed to becoming a healthier you. All I know is that on July 12th 2019, I’m having my Surgery! (Gastric Bypass). For those struggling like me on the pre op liquids, take it one day at a time and believe you can get through it!

My dr sells us a diet and it is awful. I talked to a friend of mine who went to the same dr and she modified it a little, so I have too. I have been doing it since Tuesday. I messed up last night and am beating myself up right now. I have 9 days until my surgery. I am about to be so hard core. I have wanting this for so long and I am not going to get in my own way like I have for so many years.

Yes the pre-op 2-week liquid diet is required by the program at Cleveland Clinic. I think I decided I’m going to start cutting down and eliminating things week by week. Caffeine, sugar and carbonation. Also NSAIDs but that doesn’t have to do with the food as much as weening myself off from using them.

I just finished day 7 of my 2 week pre-op diet. I am just blown away in the differences of how the diets vary from surgeons. Mine is 2 weeks, only Clear Liquids, Protein Shakes, raw vegetables and Tomato Soup. I was feeling lightheaded but I started drinking Gatorade and that really seemed to help. One more week July 8th surgery day. I have stuck to the diet and have not cheated. It’s not really as hard as I thought it would be but still get hungry.

Hi, how have you modified your diet? I would be so worried it would mess up my surgery or make it more complicated. My surgeon stressed how important it was to stick to it to make the liver smaller and make surgery easier, less risks and quicker recovery.

I’m drinking two Premier Protein shakes and then eating the things that I got from him that I like. I’m not straying too far off. It’s around 800 calories, low carb, and low fat. I’ve lost 4 lbs since Tuesday.

When I did my pre op 2 years ago it’s was hard the first two days. The thought of not eating makes you hungry lol. But after that it was a breeze and I lost 20lbs with out any form of exercise.i had a very small list of veggies I could eat with 3.5 oz of lean Protein a day so I opted for beef Jerky and I roasted the veggies with fat free Italian dressing . Those roasted veggies saved my life lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
