I didn’t join the board until much later, I’m going to try and find the original thread tonight. I hope everyone is doing well. I remember thinking it was a bad time of year to get the surgery for some unknown reason, now I think it is a perfect time of year. It is so nice to be healthier this summer. I had surgery 8/13/18. I hope it’s ok if I chime in now.

I didn’t start taking pictures until recently, here are my April-June comparisons. I took the first picture when I joined the gym. I’m close to my goal weight, I just haven’t decided what that is.

I'm doing well. I'm now down 91 pounds (72.3 since surgery). I feel much healthier and happier. The weight loss has slowed significantly but I'm ok with that. I have about 45 pounds to reach my personal goal. Some recent progress pics (current pics from my recent vacay to Dominican Republic).

Had to get my love to dig in his phone for pictures b/c I don’t have any of myself. I don’t like taking them really. Anyway HW:282 SW:247 Cw:179. My goal weight was 180 but I changed that to 170. Most recent pic is from May at 185. My doctors are expecting 155-160. However I don’t think that will look good. I kind of got into it with his assistant who thinks I’m hindering myself from getting to that number. I could be 🤪haven’t been that weight since I was in my 20’s.

I swore that I posted already, but I can’t find my post. Hopefully this isn’t a duplicate post.

Surgery was 6/4/18 (VSG). I’m down 90lbs. I went from a size 16 to a size 4. I’m kind of at my goal and kind of want to lose another 10 lbs. Time flies you guys. http://www.instagram.com/Vsg4me2please

Hi everyone:

I’m 96lbs down from my HW of 354. I was sleeved last July and have my one year follow-up appt on the 10th. I’m still losing between 7-10 lbs a month and I’m not really exercising at all. I do plan to ramp that up this summer though. My goal weight is 175 so I still have a ways to go. Slow and steady... It truly has been a wonderful journey. My whole life changed with the first 30 lbs and it all been wonderful since then. Hope to be in Onederland by Christmas.

First - you look awesome! You're absolutely welcome to jump in now!! I had my surgery 8/14/18 - we're surgery twins!

Our original thread was all about post-op stuff, but we did also have a post-op thread. I'll see if I can find that and post the link here. Might have good info in it for people, but it isn't very active with posts any longer.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
