How long did everyone wait until you started drinking coffee after surgery? I’ve seen many different things, and I know that not everyone follows the rules so I want to know did it have any ill effects? I’m nervous and hesitant to start back even when I’m cleared because they always warn that it irritates stomachs and stuff.. but I used to drink A LOT of coffee. Now that I’ve weaned myself off I’m not sure what it will be like. Coffee fiends! Let’s hear your experience!

I had decaff the first day of surgery. But the docs are all so different. What does your doc/program allow?

A month before surgery, I switched to decaf...Then went back to Yummy coffee again about a month after surgery. I don't drink that much though. Just a medium cup in the morning....coz it is one of the best parts of waking up 😍

My doctor just okayed on my last appoint. So a little over a month after surgery. Just no cream or sugar with it. I drank some a couple of days ago and today with my Protein Shake and my stomach has been fine so far.

I have fallen in love with coffee again after getting the okay from my surgeon at my 3 month check up since I was getting all of my Water in. I started out slowly with one cup and 2 half and half. Now at 9 months I love drinking it with my Premier Protein shake. On my way to work, I drink 30 oz of water in the morning. When I get to work I have a 50/50 ratio of coffee to Premier. I no longer use half and half. I like the warm creamy vanilla taste but adore the caramel mix! And I don't have to worry about the acid in my stomach.

I switched to Decaf before surgery and then lost my taste for it completely after surgery. I used to drink about 4 cups a day. I guess I am afraid of the acid and any irritation it might cause. I had a Barretts polyp removed prior to surgery - a pre cancerous growth related to acid reflux, so I try to avoid anything that will increase acid.

Now professors at the University of Nottingham in the UK are saying coffee is good for you and may even help you lose weight better and sooner! Guess on the internet, you can find what you want and sometimes even what you need!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
