How long do I have to take Actigall/Ursodiol?

Recommended Posts

My Dr. put me on Actigall a week after surgery because I still have my gallbladder. I forgot to ask them how long I would have to be on it. Is there a certain time period you're on it after surgery or is it determined by how much weight you still have to loose?

My doctor keeps all her patients on it for 6 months post-op but I’m sure all doctors are different.

Thanks! I was hoping it wouldn't be that long but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. They just seem to mess up my digestive system :(

I have a gallbladder, but no medication. I've never heard of this before.

It's a medication to help prevent gallstones due to rapid weight loss in bariatric patients.

I was supposed to be on it for 6 months but my gallbladder crapped out on me anyways after 3 months and I had to have it removed. Sigh.

That must've been hard on you to have two surgeries within three months. Obviously you recovered quite well. You're doing great on your weight loss and fitness regimen 😀👏

I'm on Ursodiol for 6 months, as well as pantaloc (for stomach acid). I'll be glad when I'm done with them because my current pill schedule (balancing Rxs with Vitamins, etc) is getting a bit out of control.

I know! Just getting off of my stomach acid pill was nice.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
