I had my final consult with my surgeon yesterday and he was concerned that my Iron levels were low. He has asked me to have an iron infusion (sounds very new age lol) before surgery in just over a months time. Anyone else had to do this

I'm a big believer in the vibes between you and any health care provider. You need to find that 1 special 1 that does "you-speak". you know, actually looks at you and listens! I a very out spoken with my pcp. That way, we both know where we are at.

I’m scheduled for September 19th.

Right now I wish I could fast forward time. I’m super excited although I do admit I panicked a bit when we set the date. I actually felt a bit guilty and I also had feelings of shame. How did I get to this point? How did it come to this? Etc.

However, after speaking with my amazing mother in law, who was beyond supportive, I started feeling much better. She told me I should be super proud of myself for taking my health into my own hands and doing what it takes to get healthy. She changed my entire point of view. Now I’m actually feeling proud of my choice and I can’t wait for the future. I know I will be super happy when I’ve lost the weight and I’ll never look back.

From now on, September will be a month to celebrate!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
