Big Belly One Day Post Op

Recommended Posts

Hi. I got the sleeve yesterday. I look six months pregnant. Is this normal? If so when does it go down? I’m so uncomfortable. I look bigger now than before. Thank you.

That's normal honey. Thats from all the fluids they pump into you. Should be about a week or so and it will go down.

Not just Fluid although your weight gain will certainly be fluid - did you have keyhole surgery? If so, they actually carefully pump a whole load of air inside you! They use the jet of air to separate your organisation inside to move them aside and make the keyhole surgery easier. They suck some out as they close up but surgeons all leave more or less of it.

It slowly dissolves over the next few days, but this is ‘gas pain’ and it is probably the worst bit of the recovery - mine hurt like hell up in my left shoulder, front and rear.

Just get up as soon as you can, and walk. You have to walk it out. As you move about, your bodily organs absorb the gas and you go back to normal!

Thank you so much. I’m so much more anxious than I thought I’d be. It’s all scary for me.

Me too. I'm not swollen that much but I'm hurting pretty bad. That's normal though im guessing considering the beautiful trauma my body just went through. Still super scary so I understand

That's normal. You were pumped with air and fluids and just had major surgery. Don't sweat it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
