Lifestyle changing new food discoveries

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I was logging my food for the last couple of days (I’m the worst at falling into the habit of logging regularly and find myself playing catch-up a lot) and I realize that I fall into so much repetition in my daily habits.

Now I’m not saying that this is necessarily a bad thing, but I’m also thinking that for the best chance of long-term success variety and broadening my palette will be important.
I’ve always considered myself a bit of a foodie and love trying new things.

I’d love to have a thread here where we all post our fave new recipes or types of foods that we’ve discovered and modifications to previous “unhealthy” foods or dishes to help with weight loss and maintenance along the way.

Lol, a girl can only eat so much cottage cheese, tuna packs, and boiled eggs before she gets really bored of her new diet!

I’ll start with a new find of mine for the week:

These “noodles” are awesome. For the first time since February, I got to have something that reminds me of Pasta.

So far I’ve eaten them twice. I’ve made “ramen” with beef Bone Broth, hot garlic sauce and these noodles.
Then I made beef “spaghetti” with low carb marinara, lean ground beef, onion, mushrooms, and these noodles.

Both dishes were so satisfying and I’m so happy I found this at my local grocery.

Love this thread! I'll play. I love those noodles. The tofu Shirataki are absolutely the best for texture, but I avoid most soy now cuz of the hormone positive BC. I was given the go-ahead for regular non-GMO and fermented non-GMO soy, but no isolates or ultra processed. So I say that to remind anyone recovering from hormone positive cancers of any kind to do your heads-up about soy products.

Here is a brand that BP carries that is really good! It has oat Fiber in it--love the idea of beta glucans and like the texture a little better than just plain shirataki noodles. I love that it's a bigger bag (about 2x as big) and a good price for the size. :)

Here's the LINK! There are several different styles. I heart the rice and the spaghetti sizes.

I've gotten to where I combine them with zucchini noodles and have with any pasta-ish style dish. I also of course, do them in any Asian dish--especially lo mein, pho, and any time I want "rice". Works great with Southern stuff.

I rinse them well under cold Water. And put in a dry frying pan where I dry fry them for about 5 minutes until they get rid of all water and are very dry. Then I season them and add the sauces. That way they accept the flavor better. :)

Ooooh this is a good idea. I always dry them with paper towels, but this is a way better idea (and saves on paper towels :) ). Thanks!

IMHO, dry frying is a game changer with these. :) (also rinsing ;) )

I put the noodles in a strainer and run Water over them (for like forever)...do you have a tip to make the rinsing more effective??? I feel like I'm wasting some much water rinsing this stuff!

I just rinse them for about 30 seconds to a minute. Doing it longer isn't gonna get rid of the smell inside them. :) ;) I kinda stir them with my hand and move them around in the strainer? Then shake them and put in the frying pan with the vent on. ;) haha. Adding the spices and sauce after dry frying takes care of any residual odor. You know?

Omg guys. These are great tips.
I’ve got to run to the store later and get some more and can’t wait to try the dry fry technique

Okay so even though it’s a bajillion degrees outside today, I made the “ramen” again for lunch.
What I do is take a packet of the bariatric cream of chicken Soup and add a scoop of beef Bone Broth. I run 8oz Water though my Keurig then stir in some little torn up pieces of seaweed Snacks (the wasabi flavor is full of awesomeness). Then I take my angel hair tofu, rinse in a colander form 30-60 seconds, throw in a bowl and microwave for about a minute. I don’t care if it’s wet because I’m gonna throw it into the broth anyway.
I also added a dollop of wasabi (not pictured) into the cup to give it some pep.

All in all, I’m only able to eat about half at a time, so it serves me 2 meals during my eating window.

Each half gives me 14gm Protein, 90 calories, 5 gm carbs.

Apparently you have to eat healthy more than once to get I to shape. This is both cruel and unfair. I Do Protest, but someone will take a firehose to me to shock me into silence. And I'm still Big enough that I will make an excellent target!

I found them in the produce section of my local grocery store.
They were where the regular tofu is kept

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
