Sirena2020 7 Posted June 18, 2019 I am six days post op and swallowing liquids hurts my chest area - is this normal? When does this pain go away?
Briswife15 890 Posted June 18, 2019 Are you sipping or gulping? Try little frequent sips. Things get better.Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app 1 djgirl19 reacted to this
Sirena2020 7 Posted June 18, 2019 Thanks for your response. I am sipping however there are times where i’m so thirsty that I gulp and the pain in unbearable. I realize that my insides are still healing and I need to keep sipping for a bit. I am just wondering if this pain will slowly go away.
Briswife15 890 Posted June 18, 2019 I do believe the pain will go away as long as you remember to sip. Gulping may always hurt.Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
gabybab 696 Posted June 19, 2019 It hurt me the first month. I'm almost 4 months post-op and can drink/gulp normally.

Sheribear68 3,201 Posted June 19, 2019 I’m also 4 months post sleeve and I second what gaby says. The first 2 weeks post sleeve I felt like someone had punched me hard in the solar plexus every time I swallowed. Didn’t matter if I drank slowly or faster, it just hurt really bad. From weeks 2-4 that feeling had settled into a vague discomfort and after the first month I can’t recall it doing that ever again. Now I still get pain if I try to chug more than 4 ounces at once or If I drink too soon after eating, but it’s a different kind of pain
Sirena2020 7 Posted June 19, 2019 Thanks I was worried that this pain is a forever pain I’m glad it’s temporary
