Hello everyone, from what i have seen so far this is a great forum with awesome people offering great advice

I had gastric by-pass at the end of April 2019 and have been through the liquid, pureed, and Soft food diets (Still on Softwood until i see my surgeon again), i have had an issue twice so far with food getting stuck, once was with steamed fish and another time with Risotto.

I chewed my food really well but it still happened those two times and i find it really tender to swallow anything for a few days after it, I know the opening if narrow at the moment but is this because i am am healing or is this the way it is going to be for every?

I had that with Beans but suffered through. I read on here that you can mix 1/4 teaspoon of meat tenderizer with a tiny bit of Water and sip that. I guess it’s supposed to help break down the meat. I’ve never tried it.

Oh what a miserable sensation, I have had that with foods I know have been moisturized enough by sal8's and chewing. Makes you wonder if this is something structural, whether you are tending up your throat yourself or whether💦you are just expecting too much that your foodstuffs slip into your still- New pouch?

I had my surgery on 4/29 and have been having the same issue. I saw my surgeon this past week and he said it’s normal for your body to form scar tissue that narrows your passages, but that it should resolve itself soon. He told me to go back on full liquids and purées for a couple more weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
