Another new Georgia Girl

My surgery is in 8 days. I've been on liquids now for 6 days. I'm looking forward to it, but a little nervous. The thing that upsets me the most is giving up my diet coke. I currently weigh 235, wanting to lose 100 pounds. I feel fortunate too that my insurance is covering this. Otherwise, I would not be able to do it.

Just saying hello and hope that my success is as good as others I have read about.

I am one who likes things NOW. I went to my first informational seminar the last week in June and my first appointment with the doctor the week of July 4th. I'm now 8 days away and VERY anxious. Good luck to you and HANG IN THERE.

The thing that upsets me the most is giving up my diet coke. I currently weigh 235, wanting to lose 100 pounds.

Sometimes it's easier if you put it all in perspective.

Consider this, what if you had a photo of a can of Diet Coke and a photo of you thin. Which do you want more? Diet Coke is pretty insignificant in the whole scheme of things.

Don't misunderstand, I TOTALLY understand what you are saying. I used to drink Diet Coke non stop. I could go for weeks and weeks without ever drinking Water. I drank Diet Coke. I'd get up in the middle of the night, be thirsty, realize I was out of soda and get dressed, go to a fast food joint and get a mega huge Diet Coke. OMG, how horrible is that?

Thin is soooooooooo much better than soda, I swear. It's not as bad as you think giving the stuff up. When you see the scale moving down down down you'll realize it is all completely and totally worth it.

Good luck to you! And most of all, congrats on your future weight loss!

Candy...

It's hard, but you can do it! You won't believe me today but honestly, in no time at all you'll hardly even think about Diet Coke. You'll be so busy seeing the scale move in the correct direction that you'll WANT to do anything to keep it moving!

You'll do fine!!

thanks! I know, tonight I'm having my cream of chicken Soup when I'd REALLY like to attack the honey baked ham that is in the fridge for thanksgiving! But, I'm being strong, I know I've wanted SO long to be thin again (I used to be when I was younger) and I know that this is my chance, and my time. If I don't take advantage of it now, I can only blame myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
