after surgery issues...

Recommended Posts

after surgery i was a in a lot of pain which is to be expected..then i at home.. i had issues taking deep breaths so i called a ambulance and was taken to the emergency room... at 2"00 am in the morning....i was given something for the extreme pain i was in .. then i had a lot of blood tests had a ct scan.. the docs said maybe i had aspiration after surgery.. which could develop into pneumonia.. they gave me some antibiotics told me they would admit me... but i was still in the emergency room till 11"00pm the next time.. until they got me a room.. very quiet place only `1 other patient there.. bed was much more comfortable... i got some good sleep..a few docs talked to me and said they were concerned about some of my blood tests not for possible pneumonia but for my liver..some possible abnormality they detected.. so they had to do more tests had a ultrasound...i also was given my pain meds which led to a less painful experience for me lol.not what i expected after bariatric surgery...

Prayers for speedy recovery! At least your pain was relieved and you have a sense of humor about it all!

Is your bariatric surgeon in the loop on this? It would not be unusual for liver numbers to be wonky between your obese condition pre-op, any pre-op diets for "shrinking the liver" and subsequent weight loss which stresses the liver owing to its job in metabolizing the fat that is being lost; in short, there's lots going on that can cause unusual liver numbers, so I would want someone familiar with bariatric patients weighing in (so to speak) on this so that they don't go overboard on treating something that may well be "normal" for your circumstances.

Good luck, and glad they got the pain issues under control,

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
