Work/Social eating

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

I'm scheduled for a sleeve 6/24. I'm 5 days into pre op diet and it has been rough, but going ok. It has given me confidence because I'm eating so little right now and feeling ok.

I could use some help with work meals. I am frequently in situations where i meet clients, co workers, etc... for lunch, or for drinks. How do you guys handle this? Not necessarily during pre/post op stage, but more from a sustainable/ long term angle

Thanks

14 years out.

I order only an entree (as not enough room for an appetizer) and ensure it’s a lot of Protein. A steak, double cheeseburger; etc. I eat as much as I can and take the rest with me. It’s never been a problem.

I can’t help with the drinks, as I don’t partake; but I do know one should wait 6-12 months before having one. You don’t want your liver to work double time on weight loss and alcohol.

Congratulations and wishing you the very best of luck on your upcoming surgery.

I would advise you to not schedule working lunches with your clients/friends for the first few months. You have to learn how to eat with your new stomach. It has happened to me a couple of times when I thought I was going to be fine, but still ended up being sick. It is very easy to get distracted. On your first month or so, you need to focus on what you're eating, to chew slow and to pay attention to what your stomach is saying...whether you're full or not. It was embarrassing that a couple of times, I had to excuse myself from the table and got super sick. Even though I can now enjoy the company of others on my lunch breaks, I now prefer to walk. well, maybe I go out with them once a week, but I really enjoy my "me" time.

Lunches: I pack something light and easy to eat for lunch. Yogurt, Hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, beef jerkies, grapes and cheese.... I notice I get full quickly with sandwiches or Pasta, so I avoid them at work. I can also now eat chicken/tuna salads.

Drinks: Water..water..water.. when we go out on the weekend, I am now able to drink up to 2 Michelob Ultra or 1 Vodka+diet coke.

Good Luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
