Hello I will be getting VSG on August 19th. Does anyone who of any books that can help me deal with change and to help me have the right mind set? I have always been over weight since I can remember and my mom brought up a good point on how I am going to respond to this change and how to deal with it.

I'm reading a book right now called "Bariatric Mindset". Got it on Amazon and I really like it. Very helpful.

The Obesity Code by Jason Fung. Excellent! Makes sense of the science behind obesity and weight loss.

Younger Next Year for women by Chris Crowley and Dr. Henry Lodge. This is full of life changing strategies, focusing on exercise. It meant more to me as I started my exercise program and is very motivational.

Both these books were required reading by my surgeon and I think they are both highly informative and motivating.

Hi there! I bought a few books before my op too as I knew the mental change would be a longer journey than the physical one. The book I've dipped into most has been Living With Bariatric Surgery by Denise Ratcliffe and Portion Perfection for Bariatrics. The former is very helpful at explaining the what to think about before you have the op. The latter is expensive but gives a great visual guide as to the portion sizes you'll be able to eat post-op (cos who knows what 150g or 120ml of food looks like?). Hope this helps!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
