merisafaye 4 Posted June 12, 2019 I had my gastric bypass a week ago and I’m super confused as to how I’m able to finish an entire 11oz shake and even 4oz of apple sauce or 8 oz of Soup . I’m kind of freaking out. Is it because of the consistency? 2 merisafaye and JanJan19 reacted to this
GradyCat 3,695 Posted June 13, 2019 You can only eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup at a time for a while.
RickM 1,752 Posted June 13, 2019 Yes - liquids usually flow right through you with little restriction, though some people will have notable inflammation in their stomach after surgery and will be much more restricted (hence the usual instruction to sip, sip, sip our liquids until you see how things flow in you. I was doing similarly in the hospital with no concern on the doc's part. As you move into more solid foods your eating volume will be much more restricted, and that is when the usual volume restrictions (whatever your doctor provides, if any,) apply. Macy6 356 Posted June 13, 2019 Although liquids will move through one thing to consider is. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. I was done on 6/4, I measure everything out to 2oz, no matter what, some things I only tolerate 1-1.5 oz of but no matter what I never eat more than 1/4c or 2oz. Macy6 356 Posted June 13, 2019 I’m going to add on for clarification. I drink as much as I want for liquids but for actual food (I’m on purées) I only do 2oz, every 2-3 hours.
Ellf 205 Posted June 13, 2019 I'm up to about half a cup, but I did 2 oz when I started.
