jennj 49 Posted June 11, 2019 I can’t do whey Protein Shakes, so I’ve found a vegan one I like. However, it has 25g of carbs per shake. The whey ones have like 5g. What is recommended? It seems like a huge difference, but not sure if a big enough one to find a different shake.
GreenTealael 25,439 Posted June 11, 2019 The type of carb matters when looking at the label (fiber, added sugar, sugar alcohols, etc.) 5g was my teams rec to stay under for sugar alone 3 FluffyChix, allwet and beingdina reacted to this
SusieQ2019 567 Posted June 11, 2019 That is a high amount of carbs. The max for me is 5g like GreenTealael. 3 GreenTealael, allwet and FluffyChix reacted to this
jennj 49 Posted June 11, 2019 So each shake should have no more than 5g of sugar? Darn! mine has 9g. I guess it's back to soy isolate for me. 1 1 FluffyChix and GreenTealael reacted to this
SusieQ2019 567 Posted June 11, 2019 I would prefer to get most of my carbs from vegetables. 2 GreenTealael and FluffyChix reacted to this

Try NowSports chocolate Soy Protein Isolate off Amazon. Under 10g of carbs which was my guideline from my surgeon. Delicious. GradyCat 3,695 Posted June 11, 2019 I don't know why it would have so many carbs, but it sounds like a lot. We're supposed to stay under 40 carbs a day total, right? Maybe keep looking. 2 GreenTealael and FluffyChix reacted to this
Sheribear68 3,201 Posted June 11, 2019 My NUT has told us we need to stay under 30 carbs daily unless it’s a special occasion. But we were also told after 6 weeks to stop Protein Shakes and start using solid food as Protein sources. Every now and then when a Protein Shake is my only option I go for the fairlife core power vanilla with 42 gm protein. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Core-Power-Elite-42g-Protein-Drink-Vanilla-14-Fl-Oz-1-Count/51236582?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=2803&adid=22222222227000000000&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=t&wl3=42423897272&wl4=pla-51320962143&wl5=9026270&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=51236582&wl13=2803&veh=sem&gclid=Cj0KCQjwov3nBRDFARIsANgsdoF-8C9QStQkfjrWkYL1fKii4IanhE0NMU3DM01tjddbk3wzDjNgsEIaAvAoEALw_wcB 2 GreenTealael and FluffyChix reacted to this
mousecat88 2,281 Posted June 11, 2019 I mean, when did you have surgery? I was told I can have up to 110g of carbs a day at this point given my exercise. (I don't... lol) So, depending how far out, 25g of carbs if you are using a shake as a meal may not be a big thing unless it makes you sick. 2 GreenTealael and KT1981 reacted to this
jennj 49 Posted June 11, 2019 I haven’t had surgery yet. July 8. I’m just trying to find a Protein Shake I can stomach. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

Honestly I never found one that I truly like. The one I posted the link to is about the only one I can stomach in small amounts. I make that 14 ounce shake last 2 servings because I get pretty full after about half of it. Right around the time I was cleared for semi-solids, I went to plain milk for Protein and ditched the shakes. I also used dairy protein as my bridge to get most of my requirements in. In all honesty, I probably didn’t hit any protein goals until I was 6-8 weeks post-surgery and I just had my 3 month labs run and my protein levels are just fine. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
jennj 49 Posted June 12, 2019 So this is the nutritional panel from my shakes. I think because it’s vegetable based that’s why there are so many carbs. I have my pre-op appt on the 25th, so I will talk to my surgeon then. Just wondering what any of you thought about this. I looked at my soy isolate powder and it has 0 carbs, so obviously, this is a concern. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
