Has anyone else been told by the nutritionist not to use Protein with collagen?

My nutrionist recommended it but never mentioned anything about mixing it. I'm drinking Protein Water mixed with some collagen right now so I'm curious.

She basically said that we shouldn't ingest it, but that it is fine to use on your skin. In fact, she highly recommended it topically. I believe she does look younger than her age!

Also, I have been doing quite a bit of reading about it and it seems to be a good thing to consume. I have arthritis and fibromyalgia and it seems like it helps. Perhaps it depends on who is using it and why?

You can consume it if you want those benefits but do not count it towards your Protein intake. It is an incomplete protein and doesn't include some of the necessary amino acids. The best protein for us is whey protein isolate and is what you want to look for when choosing a shake or powder to supplement to your food.

@mgrand I also have fibromyalgia. How do you feel the collagen has helped you?

There are different kinds of collagen. You have to see which ones are in the powder or supplement for which concern. Some kinds are better for skin and hair, others for joint issues. Overall, I think some people say to stay away because it can be hard on your stomach and it isn't considered a Protein for us. As a supplement, as long as you can handle it and it addresses your concerns, I would think it is ok. I am taking it for the skin/aging issues. I feel since I have lost the weight from surgery, I notice more signs of aging.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
