Nervous - gastric sleeve surgery

Recommended Posts

Guest

My surgery is on Tues (11th June). I've spent the last two weeks on the pre-op milk diet; it's been painful, as I'm sure a lot of us know.

I am really anxious about the surgery itself and I've been battling a lot of thoughts about keyhole/open surgery. My anxiety has me convinced that my liver won't be small enough for keyhole and they'll have to cut me open.

I'm so excited to have this tool but I wish I could fall asleep tonight and wake up this time next week, with surgery and being in hospital over and done with.

What’s the milk diet?
Oh it's a milk only pre-op diet prescribed by my surgeon. Per day: 3.5 pints of milk, 1+ litre of Water, 1-2 cups of chicken stock. I can also have sugar free jelly and celery.

Before my surgery I asked my surgeon how often he has to do an "open" surgery and he said it's very uncommon these days and it has been years since he's done one.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
