Weight Loss Disappointment

Recommended Posts

Just had my 8 week post op appointment. I’m only down 20lbs since my surgery! I’m clearly doing something wrong. How have others managed with slow weight loss?

I've only lost just under 15 pounds in the 5 weeks since my surgery and I am thrilled! You are losing between 2 and 3 pounds per week, I don't think that qualifies as slow or that something is wrong. Everyone is different and rate of weight loss depends on many different things. Just keep doing what you are supposed to be doing and you will continue to lose.

How tall are you and what was your weight on the date of your surgery? The lower your start weight the lower the weight loss will be.

If you were significantly overweight say 350lb to 400lb start with, you could epect to lose more if your food intake is on point.

What is your daily menu looking like? What are you eating and drinking and in what volumes?

Just a thought it would be useful if you filled in your profile, it would stop the questions like what is your start weight, what surgery did you have etc, as the information is there already to see.

You're doing fine. When's the last time you lost 20 lbs. in eight weeks? Keep working your plan and you'll keep losing. Good luck!

if you are following your surgeon's plan, the weight will come off, either fast or slow. I was a slow loser from the get-go, and I ended up losing 100% of my excess weight. Your commitment to your program is MUCH more indicative of your ultimate success than your rate of weight loss is.

I started out at 298 pre op. My surgery weight was 287. I’m 5’9 and I walk about 2-3 miles about 4 days a week.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
