*Tears* longest Plateau Ever..long vent

Good Morning all, In 3 days I'll be 2 months post OP and the scale won't move, I'm sad and want to cry. I posted here several times and I've also had a NSV of being able to fit clothes I haven't worn in maybe a year or more. My thing is I want to see the numbers go down. I thought I was doing things right and someone here told me to cut my calories down to 300 to 500 which I did. I then went to the doctor and she told me I needed to eat MORE than what I was and bring my calorie intake up to at least 1000 to 1200. Im feeling overwhelmed and feeling like it's only me that can't lose weight. I see people here and whom i know from other forums and stated the journey when I did are way down in weight but I'm losing slowly, too slowly for my liking. I have gained 4lbs, prior to going to the doctor and I've lost them, I'm not stressing that cuz I ended up at the hospital at one point and getting fluids was the reason. now im stuck at that same number for more than a month.. surgery day weight was 249 today im 232, what is wrong with me!! please help with any suggestions you have I really don't want to go back to unhealthy living, I'm one of those people who gets discouraged easily. thanks for listening to me rant.

I’m sorry you are having such a hard time. First make sure you are measuring everything. By eyeballing serving sizes you can eat several hundred extra calories each day. I would say follow your doctors guidelines, mine are much lower than yours but I always say follow your doctors guidelines because if you don’t they will just attribute any problem to not following their advice. Lastly I say forget the scales and take your measurements once a month. The scale will move if you are doing what is recommended. Stop weighing. Just know you are doing everything you can

Wow. Sorry you are struggling.

Don't know who told you 3-500cals. That might have been true at 3-4 weeks? But I think the biggest majority of us have cals during the losing mode of 600-850cals/day--very loose average. Maintenance for me is around 1000cals. Even at 900cals my loss if painfully slow negligible. But, we are all different and have different TEE (Total Energy Expenditure). It could be so many things: hormones, medications, genetics, nutritional components, calories, sleep, stress, physical activity/exercise, age, alcohol/caloric drink consumption.

You've lost 17 pound in about 12 weeks. That's about 1.4lbs/week which is a little on the low side. The average weekly weight loss is 2-4lbs in the early losing phases.

Are you maximizing everything YOU can contribute to this journey? (ie everything within your control) What does your doctor say about your progress/situation?

My nutritionist told me I should be at 500 calls for the first 3 months. I told her I usually eat about 400 and she said that was good. I shoot for 400 but if I exercise I eat the same number of calories I burned to be 400 for the day. I’m definitely not a huge loser on the scale so I try to ignore everyone saying they lose 30 lbs in a month. It’s not a contest and each of our bodies are different.

We all have such different plans. :) My RD wanted me closer to 1000-1200cals. But my doc has had no probs with me being in the range of 600-850 during the losing phase. :)

Thanks guys! the only thing I'm not fully getting in is the exercise due to my setback and then i had a severe constpation issue, I started the C25K but I will have to restart that next week after my (TMI) butt soreness has gone away and i can walk better. I haven't been able to consume alot as i get full really fast, I'm now beginning to hit my Water goals. i have been getting in the Protein thanks to the shakes but my doc told me to increase my food intake which seems like a difficult task but I'm trying. It's just so depressing that i feel im doing everything in my power to do this right and i don't feel it's working. I've stepped back from te scale everyday and now I'm on it maybe every 2 days. I'll try to stay away from it.

btw, the only thing I've ever drank was water, i don't drink alcohol nor sodas and here lately, I've been drinking diet snapple which is on my list from the doc.

btw, the only thing I've ever drank was Water, i don't drink alcohol nor sodas and here lately, I've been drinking diet snapple which is on my list from the doc.

My weight loss picked up the moment i was able to get real food (protein + Fiber in veg) in me and reduce the Protein Shake consumption. I still had one or a partial in the morning, but food the rest of the day. Some don't do well with the insulin factor from the Protein Shakes.

Hang in there. It gets better. I get the whole contipation thing and soreness...but you must move. Even 5 minutes of walking in your house. Take baby steps. Forget a C25K. You're not there yet. Live in reality. Small steps daily, consistently...not big grand gestures/movements. Before you know it, you will be walking 10K per day and will be ready to think about a C25K. Swearsies!!!

Im in the same boat as you. sleeved 5 weeks ago, lost 20 the first 2 weeks, then nothing for over 3 weeks. I 100% understand what your feeling and I get it, its so frustrating! The only thing keeping me hopeful is measuring. I measure everything every 2 weeks and even tho the scale doesn't move, im still losing inches. Maybe try that to see?

I feel like I'm a slow loser too because I see so many people who lose 20 the first week or some crazy number. My first week post-op was 5 pounds. I'm happy to take it slow and go with the flow but for sure, the panic sets in sometimes when you compare. Which is bad, I know I know.

I will get back on the treadmill and restart walking, It was extremely hard for me to walk after that severe Constipation and then diarrhea but i haven't quit that.

I feel I've been eating enough food, what i don't do is measure everything but i will start to do that ALL the time. thanks for your input.

I do..i realize im losing inches cuz my clothes are too big now especially my pants, although I haven't measured myself at all. and maybe im suffering from body dysmorphia but I'll try to stay off the scale and do more to get the weight off. You hang in there as well, we can push each other.

Guys this was SUCH a hard thing to realize. There are only a few who lose 20lbs the first month, but it feels like literally everybody and their brother were losing that fast except me. Try your hardest not to compare. You're doing great. Stay the course! Try to seek peace and patience...easier said than done. :(

I may be in panic mode!! most of my 17 came off in the first two weeks after that... it all went downhill

I've tried going lower, I've tried going higher, but I'm still stuck. 600-800 works best for me and I just have to be patient. I'm exercising 4 or 5 days a week, focusing on Protein, getting in my Water and staying under 1,000 calories so you'd think I'd be losing weight, but no, my body doesn't want to right now. It happens. Just stay the course.

I am a little bit. On the one hand, I'm like hey, I'm 18 pounds down! Fab! But on the other hand, it's already slow & it's the first 2 weeks. And that 18 includes the pre-op. As long as it slowly continues, I'm fine with it, but it is intimidating. Also, I have zero issues. Which is GREAT right? Except at 2 weeks post op nothing makes me nauseous or uncomfortable. I stick to 4oz servings and those are fine, I feel satisfied. But it's easy to get 4oz down, it doesn't take me forever. I don't have to time myself between bites because I'm so uncomfortable, none of that. I see people struggling with 1/4 cup months and months post op & I worry that it's too easy for me. Example, I want to believe if I eat something bad I'm going to feel sick. But I sorta suspect that I could eat half a cheeseburger right now & feel just fine. I'm NOT testing it, but you know? I'm also having NO issues getting fluids down. I get down at least 65oz of Water a day. I don't include coffee or Protein Shakes as part of my oz. 65oz, no problem. I see people barely able to get to 40oz and they're including their Protein shakes and I'm just like... why is this not harder for me? Because I sorta worry it should be.

janjan, At least you can get things down especially the Fluid. I eat a Greek yogurt cup and im full even before finishing it and that lasts hours. for instance, today i ate 1 air fried chicken wing and some broccoli at 12pm.. here it is 2:38 and im still full. can't even fit in fluid, that's where I'm thinking im going wrong. Just try to watch how much you are eating/ drinking at a time cuz that will scare me as well

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
