Lol I honestly think I want the bypass for the same reason. I just don't know if I would want to take Vitamins for the rest of my life.

you'll have to take Vitamins for the rest of your life with either surgery

I thought there was no guarantee you'd dump with RNY? That seems like a weird reason to choose it. There are more complications with bypass and it's malabsorption component. I choose sleeve for that reason.

Both surgeries are a TOOL and your long term success depends on the lifestyle choices you make in the years afterward.

like i said I was forced to have rny but I did so much research and talked myself out of it for a whole month gained 11 pounds out of despair because of conplications and being scared, one night 3am woke up and I was ready right then and there to start the process for rny surgery. fortunetely i only last a month before my stomach ruptured but still its a process your body and mind will figure out!

Laura,
I am waiting for approval from my insurance companies for the RNY revision surgery from the sleeve surgery 2 1/2 years ago.
I never thought once I was told that all my medical problems would be solved with the sleeve surgery to consult any of my regular Drs.I thought that these surgeon's do this everyday so they know what is the best way to go.
So I just went with the surgeon's suggestion that the sleeve was best for me.
I had severe reflux disease, type 2 diabetes, HBP,High cholesterol, asthma and arthritis.
My diabetes is gone, HBP,High cholesterol are gone. Reflux was gone for 6wks and now is worse than ever since the surgery.
I lost 87 lbs and went from size 22w to 24 w to a 12 ladies.
My suggestion is if you have medical issues consult each of the Drs.then weigh your options.
Good luck

Wow, that sucks. I have nothing no acid reflux. No diabetes. I just dont want to do the sleeve and regret not getting the bypass done. I've read a lot of people doing sleeve eventually went back for the bypass

I'm a little confused. So you had the sleeve and went back for the bypass?

I take cheap vitamins! haha I use Flinstones Complete because if you co pare Centrum complete has the same components and nutritions says its great. I also use Caltrate bone and health D3 600 Calcium. Walmart brand B complex and I do add Magnesium glycinate 400 chewable just to keep me regular because I dont like to take milk of mag and believe I stay away from food that may result in dumping syndrome now way in haities do I want to expeience that! (splenda does not give me dumping) Ive lost 78pounds since January 29th and 47 pounds since day of surgery 4/10/19 (8weeks). if I slack on vitamins I stall its wierd so I dont miss anymore! I had 1 complication it was a kidney stone but I heard its rare painful but rare amd mostly guys develop them. my doc says prob because I already had kidney issues to begin with so he doesnt really consider it complication. I consider my surgery complication free! I love it. Im only 36 and best decision ever! I used to rely on food. i find myself chewing up a piece of meat and spitting it out now thinking what the heck I dont want this right now. its totally cool but wierd!

I think with the gastric sleeve you have to take Vitamins as well...just maybe not as much as those of us who have gastric bypass. For me, I take meds for other things every days well, so adding vitamins wasn't that much of an issue. Heck lots of people take vitamins everyday that dont otherwise need them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
