Awesome. In so happy everything is going great for you. I can only pray everything goes well for me also. I feel so scared and idk why. I think scare to have a complication afterwards but other than that excited. My surgery is coming un in July.

many people never have complications - and for those who do, they're usually pretty minor (like a stricture - which is an easy fix). Major complications are pretty rare. These are very safe surgeries.

Like others have said, it does depend on your health issues. I was in the same predicament when I started this process, being told that either surgery would be good for me. I started the process wanting the sleeve because the bypass seemed too intrusive what with your anatomy being changed. However, I’m a week post op with gastric bypass and I wouldn’t change anything. I chose bypass over sleeve due to more weight on average being lost, and more success with it. I see a lot of people with sleeve getting a revision to bypass. Either surgery can be extremely successful, but my research led me to bypass.

Exactly what you said is why I want the bypass. You took the words out of my mouth. Did the bypass hurt?

No more than slightly skinning your knees. Really you do not have to worry about pain. And worry does suck the joy out of Life...

Wow really? I guess everyone is different. I read a lot of people saying it hurts so much. I hope mine doesn't

I've been on bariatric boards for about five years. Based on what I've seen, I would say most people have little to no pain. There are some who do, yes - but a majority do not.

I am 4 days out of my RNY. I was prepared for much more pain than I actually had. (Though I would say it was more than the pain of simply skinning my knees! LOL!)

I have near zero pain now, just some tenderish incision sites. Nothing that I am taking any pain meds for or anything. I think I just got lucky. :)

There are so many factors that come into play, and it really is unique to each person. Just know that no matter what comes, you can and will get through it. Good luck, you got this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
