Okay so I had my labs done yesterday and they did the oxygen one and I already got my results online but idk what to make of them. It seems I'm barely out of range for a few. Anyone know if they will still do surgery or if this is just something I'm stressing over for nothing.

My co2 was out of range and I still had surgery. I'm sorry I can not speak for the other tests. Good luck!

Might need a little tweaking but might not, if they do it should not be very long, but will pray🙏 everything smoothes out. Have you asked one of the nurses or medical staff,to help you interpret them better? Might be a Good First Step!

Some of mine were slightly below the normal range ( I believe it was with all the liver function counts) and he never even mentioned it. It’s getting so close for you now!!!!!

Nursing student here! If you have known issues with your kidneys, this could be an expected result. Your kidneys secrete HCO3 which is a base. It helps maintain the acid-base balance in your body. In this result, the pCO2 is more basic to compensate for the fact that the kidneys are not secreting enough HCO3 (bicarbonate). If you don’t have kidney problems, I’m not by any means telling you that you do. I’m just saying that for whatever reason, your bicarbonate was low, so your PCO2 being more basic (less than 35) is a compensatory mechanism. Honestly, I’d think a PCO2 on the higher side would be a problem for surgery. That means you’d have a problem with ventilation (45+ is more acidic) and were retaining CO2 which would be a problem for anesthesia. I don’t think you have anything to worry about!

Thank you everyone!!! I haven't gotten a call from the nurse so I'm going to assume everything is okay.

Sorry, am not familiar with the test results you got...I only have experience with being faced with constant 'oxygen level issues'....

I've had multiple pulmonary embolisms (blood clots that went thru my heart to my lungs) and am on oxygen at night and sometimes during day. My surgeon knows this and they are still planning to operate. My oxygen levels dip down, especially after surgery into the 70's (once you hit '89' on the monitor - the equipment starts a horrific alarm). They just come in and either put an oxygen mask on me or they up the level of oxygen.

Even though the clots are now gone from my lungs, ,they left them scarred so I will always face a battle with respiration issues. I have found that the more I swim and practice holding my breath, it helps a bit with stretching things out...kind of like when we were kids and could only hold our breath for maybe 1/2 a lap, then you keep working on it and gradually if you work it correctly, some ppl could do multiple laps with very little need for extra breaths.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
