I think it has to be with the surgeon. But if you have doubts, check with your insurance. A licensed dietician should be in there with your progress.

Depends on your insurance. Mine required 6 months with my PCP. We have certain paperwork we had to fill out each visit that my surgeon had given me. Your 2 previous month should usually work if they was no break between the visits. I would call your insurance.

My insurance specifically required that I have my 6 months visits with a Dr other than my surgeon so I used my PCP...if that is the case with you, then the last 2 months should be fine as long as your Dr sends in the info along with what your goals etc are for the coming month.

You absolutely need to speak with your insurance company and see what the requirements are.

It has to be six consecutive months of visits to a doctor or clinic where they've weighed and measured and counseled you on your diet.

My insurance just requires 6 months, they don't have to be consecutive. I did three months a year ago (I got denied but my BMI was lower), and I have one more appointment this time to get to six months. It just has to be within 2 years.

All insurance seems different, mine was 6 months with my PCP and she had to document my progress and what we discussed VERY WELL. Not allowed to just be a nurse weigh in.

Mine had to be 6 consecutive monthly appts. I shaved time off by going on the last day of month 1 and the first day of month 6 and they okayed it. They also required some type of proof of my weight from the 2 years prior. I didn't have that but luckily I had been to a weightloss phentermine "clinic" and they took that as proof.

I had to do the same thing. I'm with BCBS, and they have a Wellness program in which a nurse will coach you through the 6-month weight management program. Proof that you were in weight loss program like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig for 6 months counts. There has to be proof. So, check to see if your insurance provider has a similar program.

My insurance requires 6 consecutive months with either my PCP or a nutritionist. I chose my PCP because we’ve been discussing my weight and diet for a while now. So I have 4 consecutive months already and I go for my consult on the 8th of July.

So I saw my pcp yesterday and he said he would count the past 2-3 months of me getting diet pills for the 6 month required diet visits if the insurance would OK it. Otherwise he officially put me on a diet plan starting yesterday but all he did was say exercise a couple days a week and count my carbs.. And he is a weight loss doctor! Thought the diet would be more detailed than that.. Any thoughts?

My PCP had me meet once with their nutritionist and set me an exercise goal and diet goal tracking my intake on myfitnesspal. Each month we went over everything and adjusted my goals and she sent a detailed report to my surgeon's office.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
