Ready610 42 Posted June 4, 2019 I have hip and knee arthritis and 6 more days until my surgery. I’m in excruciating pain because I can’t take any NSAIDS. Anyone have any suggestions on how to endure the pain for the next few days. I can barely walk to the restroom or get in and out of bed. Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated. mousecat88 2,281 Posted June 4, 2019 See if your surgeon will permit a topical NSAID for your knees. I have arthritis and am allowed to use Diclofenac topical. It actually works! But won't help a large area like your hips. Great for my fingers, knees, and ankles, however. And yes, lots of Tylenol. lol. Will never be the same as an NSAID, though. 1 Ready610 reacted to this
tldolphin7777 8 Posted June 5, 2019 Biofreeze or other prescribed topical helps greatly with arthritis. The roller option is the least messy one to use. 2 Ready610 and Carrot64 reacted to this

Ready610 42 Posted June 7, 2019 Thanks, everyone! My PCP gave me Voltaran topical cream, which is helping my knees. She also prescribed oxcycodone and later increased the dosage to help with the hip pain. I’m also taking Tylenol extra strength, applying ice and heat. I’m still in a great deal of pain, but I will make it through the weekend to surgery on Monday. 2 FunkyMunkyBrat and Frustr8 reacted to this
KCgirl061 1,532 Posted June 7, 2019 CBC oil? It takes a couple days of dosing to notice a difference though so it may not help right away but could keep the pain manageable post op as well. 2 Frustr8 and Ready610 reacted to this
Frustr8 7,886 Posted June 7, 2019 Hearing a lot of good things about. CBC oil, isn't too bad it might take a couple days to be effective, there are only a few instant satisfaction/ relief. things these days. Maybe like opiods they are trying to get rid of instant relief😪 1 Ready610 reacted to this
Ready610 42 Posted June 7, 2019 I forgot about bio freeze. I’m gonna look into getting some of that. I e also heard good things about CBD oil. I need to research it more.
FunkyMunkyBrat 205 Posted June 8, 2019 I'm curious if you and your doctor have discussed this at all.. My doctors wants me off NSAIDS forever since my RNY Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app 1 1 Ready610 and Briswife15 reacted to this
Ready610 42 Posted June 8, 2019 @FunkyMunkeyBrat, yes we discussed which procedure to do at length because of my arthritis issues. My doctor strongly recommends I stop Naproxen. He said I could try Celebrex, as it is not as harsh on the stomach as naproxen. If that doesn’t work, there are very few other options for me. I know I’ll be getting cortisone shots as soon as possible after surgery. And, I know that a hip replacement and double knee replacement are in my future. That’s part of my motivation for losing the weight. I need to lose at least 80 pounds in order to have the replacement procedures.

I had Lyme Disease which caused Lyme induced arthritis in both my hips.. It was horrible.. Bone on bone.. I had gained weight because of the Lyme.. I was always heavy but was able to be active then I couldn't.. So I was at a point where I knew it was time to get serious.. I knew I was going to have to have both hips replaced but knew there was no way I was doing that at 340#s.. So had the surgery.. Lost 120.. Had both hips replaced and that was EVERYTHING.. Gave me life back! I hope you're able to find some relieve.. Do your hip first.. It's such an easy recovery!
