6 consecutive months with PCP

Recommended Posts

I started my WLS journey back in March. I’m May, I finally found someone who takes my insurance. I had to do a seminar before they would schedule me for a consult.

They called me the day they received my certificate of completion and told me that my insurance requires 6 consecutive months of weightloss with my PCP and that I have my consult on July 8th. Has anyone else had to do the 6 month thing and what exactly happened in each appointment?

I had to do 6 consecutive visits with a nutritionist Not a PCP. At my appointments we went thru my food diary, took my weight, talked about diet and exercise. I couldnt3miss one visit or I would hav to start over. Perhaps yours will be similar. You should check with your i insurance carrier if this is their requirement. Good luck on your journey.

I didn't end up having to do it, I changed insurance before the surgery, but they did tell me it was very strict and that you must visit your doctor once each calendar month or it starts all over again; it has to be six consecutive months and not off by a day.

I would say most of us had to do that (not all, but most). It's a requirement of most insurance companies. My appts were about the same as the commenter above described. I could do it with either a doctor or a dietitian.

My insurance requires it as well, I have my final appointment on Wednesday. Every appointment we go over a worksheet that my surgeons office provided. We log my weight, talk about what eating habits I’m doing, different exercises I’m doing, what things I’ve put in place to create/keep good habits in my lifestyle. Then at the end she will provide the worksheets and a letter of support to my surgeons office and they will submit that with my other documents to my insurance.

I’ll definitely give them a call to get clarification. I just remembered them saying 6 consecutive months with PCP. I told her I think I already have that and that it might have already been over two. If I have to start over, I should have 2 consecutive months at least so I’m hoping it won’t take forever to get my surgery date after I complete the requirements.

I just spoke with them and they said I can see my PCP or a nutritionist. But it definitely has to be 6 consecutive months and they just have to document what I’ve been doing and my loss/gains. He also informed me that I’ll be getting a checklist during my consultation of things I have to do before surgery!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
