Hi All,
I just got my “welcome to the bariatric dept” letter and a denial letter on the same day. The denial said I don’t have a history of failed diets. My GP noted my failures specifically in my chart though. I’ve done so many diets, and Weight Watchers more times than I can count. I remember being on WW in my teens. My first prescription diet was early elementary school for G-d sake!
Now I have to jump through appeal hoops. I have Kaiser (Oregon) via Medicare (I’m disabled).
Any tips and encouragement is welcome!

I'm in Washington and got approved no problem. I wonder why they came to that conclusion? Hopefully your Dr will help you appeal and be able to document more information they need.

Best of luck!

I'm disabled and on Medicare via Humana and was approved with no problem, but I had a 40 BMI and two comorbidity factors.

Let me know what you find out. I am the process of doing all their requirements. My doctor wrote a letter of all the diets I have been on. I hope it will be enough.

I have a BMI over 60, pre diabetes, sleep apnea, borderline high blood pressure and a bad back. I thought it would be no problem to get approved. I’m hoping my doctor putting in more information will do the trick. ::crossing fingers::

Yay! I just got approval from the bariatric department! Apparently they immediately reissued the request after it was denied. Apparently, they just needed more from my doctor. So I’m back on track.

That's great news! Good luck on your WLS journey.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
