Not feeling understood by partner

Recommended Posts

I’m 2 1/2 months out. 63 lbs down. I’m in a battle with finding different foods that won’t make me sick and that agrees with my new pouch. My boyfriend just does NOT understand my issues because he knows someone who was sleeved and he was able to eat anything and not be affected by it. I’m sooo different. Anyone been through this? Feeling alone at this point.

Why is your boyfriend comparing the two of you? Everyone's WLS journey is different? Try not to compare yourself to anyone else's progress or journey. Hang in there.

i haven’t had surgery yet, but so far i’ve read of all kinds of different food issues that people have experienced post surgery ... and those that haven’t ... it’s your journey and everyone experiences things different. You are doing great with the weight loss but i hope you find things that agree with you more soon ... maybe if he read a few other experiences that show differences to his friend it could help? hard knowing on that

I didn't have sleeve surgery, I had MGB and I can eat anything now. BUT there is no way I could eat most of the stuff I can have now at 2.5 months out. It took me a good 6 months to work up to it. At 2.5 months, I was still on soft foods and slowly introducing more solids but it had to be solids that I could basically liquify with my chewing. I didn't tolerate a lot that wasn't liquid for awhile.

It takes time. It is really important that you give your pouch time to heal. I think you will prevent it from being so sensitive later down the road if you give it time to heal properly and not try to eat things it isn't ready for.

Listen to your body, and take it slow. Everyone has a different journey but your body will tell you when it is ready for something new.

Everyone is different. My mother in law had the bypass done and she tolerates foods differently than I do. Good luck though, and don't get discouraged. There are plenty of others with your problem and this place is a good spot to talk with others about the surgery.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
