Drank 10 oz of a protien shake!

Recommended Posts

I am 10 days post op and healing well. I've had an overall positive experience.

I am however really freaked out that I just drank about 10oz in 10 minutes. I wasn't paying attention and next thing I knew, it is was gone. I hope that I have restriction! I also hope I didn't harm myself. I have no discomfort whatsoever.

Has anyone experienced this?

Don't worry. Your swelling has gone down and so liquids go down easy! Perfectly normal. Liquids won't stretch your pouch unless you're slamming them to the point of pain.

I didnt feel that restriction I was looking for on clear or full liquids. You will get that feeling of restriction when you start puree and even more so with softs. Just be patient.

I had to be very careful during full liquid stage to not get too many calories. After about 5-6 days I could easily eat and drink. I’m on real food now and the difference is amazing. I definitely feel the restriction now. I too was very worried I would be able to easily eat too much.

I just searched this because I had VSG Tuesday and have struggled with tightness when I tried eating/drinking anything, but just now realized i fairly quickly sucked down what was maybe 6 oz of Protein Shake and wondered if I was really going to regret it. No pain so far but I feel a little gurgling down there. It tasted good bc I was hungry and before I knew it, I drank 2-3x more than what had been “normal” since surgery. I was starting to panic myself a little that I was going to split my staples.

Yeah I was afraid of that too. But I am okay! And it's been a week or so!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
