So I had my surgery 5 month ago...lost about 54 pounds. Last week I went on a cruise for 5days and I drank alcohol and over ate. .infact I even drank and ate at the same time...so I started back on my diet and my stomach began to hurt so bad..I almost went to the hospital .. I worried I did damage and stretched my stomach... is there anything I could do?

My surgeon tells me that the first 6 months is the biggest time you're at risk for developing a leak but that after that you're pretty much healed and its not a risk unless you eat something really crazy and swallow it whole. You're pretty close to that so you're safer now than if you'd have done this 3 months ago. Eating and drinking at the same time allows food to push through the sleeve faster, not leaving you full as long and then you find yourself eating more, but not necessarily stretching your sleeve.

It could be that when you were on your cruise you were eating more slider foods that you could easily fit in. Then when you came back and was eating more wholesome food you were out of practice and either ate it too fast or didn't chew it well enough and it caused pain because you overfilled your sleeve. When I do that it helps to put a warm compress on my tummy and walking around to try to get the digestive system going.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
