I've heard medicaid covers wls. You meet the standard requirements for most insurance carriers, which is a BMI of 40 with no comorbidities or a BMI of 35 with 2 comorbidities. I don't know about your specific situation, but really hope you qualify. It's life changing!! Good luck.

I am right there with you, I am terrified of not being approved. Had my barium swallow test today and found to have a small hiatal hernia and not sure if that is going to be enough for me to get approved. I have HTN and sleep apnea and BMI of 41. So trying to be hopeful d/t findng out my insurance covers 90%. Patiently waiting for approval hoping I hear something soon.

And it may sound sneaky but I have known of cases that are billed as Hiatal Hernia repair instead of bariatric surgery especially if you have one of the insurance plans reluctant to cover VSG or RNY, and sad to say even in this Enlightened age, there are insurance providers that think Bariatrics are only "Vanity Surgeries". Wish they could walk in my moccasins, they would quickly see the error of their ways! Oh I was fortunate that Medicare/Medicaid only asked for need and a BMI over 40, I sure didn't need the co-morb I already had, my presurgery BMI at first consultation was nearly 52. And not to be rotten about it, my current one is 31.1 9 months out. So your could say my life turned around JUST in Time, now at edge of mere overweight, instead of obesity and morbid obesity. 👍🌸😝🌺, as small or smaller than I was in 1967 when I got married. Long Time Ago!

OMGoodness, Frustr8 I was born in 67! LOLOL You are so amazing and I enjoy reading your replies. You are so supportive and encouraging to all of us. I guess that is why you are a bariatric legend. You are also right about the "Vanity Surgeries" I wish they could walk in our moccasins/shoes. I wake up with my back hurting, plantar fascitits, coughing hysterically from gastric reflux. I told my husband there is nothing beautiful about the way I sleep, pillow in front of me, pillow in back of me, pillow between my legs and cpap machine nose/mouth mask. LOLOL I probably would scare my grand babies if they came in the room late at night! I told the nutritionist today, I try to exercise and when I do it flares up another ailment of pain some where! So hoping to hear from the Doctor's office soon! Thank you again for responding and also keep up the good work of weight loss, I cannot tell you when my last BMI was at 31.1. You make me excited about what my future could hold! Thank you again for your kindness!

Hey No Problem, I'm almost a Bariatric Godmother around here, certainly old enough to be many people's Grandmother or Great-grandmother. 72 was pretty old to have Bariatric Surgery. But I have a new motto to go with my saggy, baggy, but smaller body.
The rest of my LIFE will now become the best of my LIFE! And it will, I have paid my dues, my fears were washed away by my tears, now if I can get my pouch not to be structured and all my jejunal ulceration to heal, I will have my Heaven , having already had my He'll on 🌎 Earth.

STRICTURED, my surgeons assure me it is perfectly structured, if so , why does it not work a little better?

You should be able to.

I am 5'5'' and was 288.9 with high blood pressure, mild sleep apnea and hypertension/high blood pressure.

My BMI was/is over 40. I have straight Medicaid (D.C.).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
