Was thinking. I had the endoscopy and it showed some gastritis. Surgeon suggested to come of my arthritis meds. Now I am in so much pain, stiff and joints locking up. Now if I get the Gastric Sleeve I will have a smaller stomach so it maybe easy to damage by taking any arthrites meds. My arthrites could be real bad in July seeing an rheumatologist, then only solution is going be an inflammatory, which can't take. Should I just forget surgery and feel no pain and irritate stomach because need take arthrites meds. Not sure what is best for my health. I know if lose weight won't be as bad on my joints. Any ideals what to do? Does anyone have arthritis or do you autoimmune disease or both? Did you have surgery how are you doing?

I have severe arthritis in my knees, and arthritis in my hands and back, and I just had gastric bypass 2 months ago. I know I will never be able to take NSAIDS again. I had cortisone injections in noth knees, which helped tremendously. I also use Diclofenac cream, and there may be meds you can take which don't irritate the pouch lining. I thought long and hard about surgery because I'd be giving up my meds. Losing weight has helped my joints. It is good you're thinking about this now. Good luck with whatever you choose.

When arthiritis has chewed your joints, sure you have less pain with less weight but they never are going to be before "Art" reared his Ugly little head. God never gives you a "Do Over" with joints, no matter where they are in the body This morning even my fingertip joints hurt, if they didn't I would know I was dead and someone forgot to tell ME.
Doctor asked me :Well Frustr8, my dear, where do YOU hurt today? "
My answer " Where Do I Not?" Been Steady- Dating "Art" since I was 25, getting close to 50 years ago. He is Omnipresent! Yep, big word for Big Bother!

I have arthritis in my knees and right hip. I was really worried about not being able to take meds for it after RNY. The first few months post-op I got cortisone injections in my hip (it's worse than my knees), but then I stopped - the pain just wasn't as bad anymore once I lost all that weight. The damage that was done is permanent, but not carrying around 200 extra pounds made a huge difference. I walk with a slight limp due to the damage, but it's just not all that painful anymore.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
