When did your weight loss slow down?

Recommended Posts

So I am over 3 months post op. I had a one brief 1 week stall but otherwise I am consistently at 2-3 lbs/week. I know everyone is different etc. but did you lose quickly until month 3, 4 or 6 then slow down and stay at that rate for months?

Did your weight loss stay steady until 6 months out? Did it just slowly decrease over time?

I'm wondering the same thing. These are my numbers so far starting the day of my surgery with no pre-op diet:

My weight loss was at its best in the first three months. It slowed down over time. Just because its slower does not mean you will stop losing weight.

Woohoo! you are close to goal.

I lost the most the first month - after that I lost 10-12 lbs a month up until about month 6. Then it dropped to maybe 8-10 lbs, and so on....so a gradual drop. Once I got to a year out, it was crazy slow - maybe 2 lbs a month. But I kept losing for 18 months.

I was losing 10 pounds a month pretty steady until about 8 months out. Now I'm still losing but at a much slower rate.

I'm about two months out, and I've lost about 52-54 lbs. (Fluctuating a bit). It seems like I'm stalling a bit now, but I know that it'll be broken eventually. If I lose 10 more lbs, I'll be below 300.

I’m 3 1/2 months post op and I’ve lost 64 lbs since the pre op diet.. I was losing a lb ever 2 days but I have slowed down with the losing to less than 2 lbs a week and sometimes only 1... I have 35 to go and I am scared the last 35 will be as tough as losing those last lbs. when I was just dieting.. I’ve purposely not over exercised because I feel that I can’t maintain extreme exercise without giving up as I’ve done before.. I try to make my exercise as fun as I can and I thoroughly enjoy it.. ( dancing for half an hour with the dog being my favorite , with the hits of miss Chaka Khan!!!).. if the last 35 come off slow, ok! I’ll get there.. if I only lose 20 more , ok! I still feel better than I have since I was 25..now 55.. I’ll take it, no regrets, no looking back.. NO un achievable expectations!!

I'm 6 months post-op RNY (surgery was on 11/28/18). I'm just starting to slow down a bit. Was losing 10-15 pounds per month, now about 7-8. Averaging about 2 pounds per week. But my nutritionist told me I will slow down and that's ok. Time to stop worrying about the number and trust the process! Only regret is that I didn't do this sooner!!

This is something with a two part answer.

The first is that, on average, we will be slowing down continually as we lose, simply because it takes fewer calories to move ourselves around all day at 300 lb as it did at 400 lb, and even fewer at 200 lb, etc. We will likely see stair steps, and some weeks or months will be lower or higher than others, but the overall trend is declining.

The second part is that we will usually experience a big drop the first couple of weeks or so (and then typically get the dreaded "three week stall") and the proceed lower at a somewhat reduced rate. This is because our initial loss it mostly Water weight associated with burning off our short term energy reserves of glycogen (basically stored carbohydrate) which gives us the "easy ten" lb that we typically lose when we start seriously dieting. After the glycogen is used up, we start to draw from our fat reserves, though there is often a pause or stall as the body changes gears.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
