Driving?

I know this sounds silly--but how long before you were able to drive? Is this even an issue?

Not really an issue. You can't drive the day of the surgery of course, but as soon as you feel well enough, you can drive. I drove 2 days after with no problem, the only problem was getting in and out of the car, it can be painful if you move wrong

If you are on prescription pain meds post op, no driving while on those.......I didn't fill the doctors prescription and just used liquid tylenol for a couple of days....I drove 2 days post op and no problem.

I drove an hour to work tonight (4 days post-op). I could have driven at least yesterday if I had not been on Vicodin.

My doctor told me not to drive within 24 hours of taking prescription paid meds. I switched to liquid Tylenol on the day before I needed to drive to work.

You can drive as long as you are not on pain meds. Be careful though, I still had pain if I took turns too fast or bumps. Also, getting in and out of the car was a slow process.

Same for me. I was told that I could drive whenever just as long as I wasn't taken pain medication.

to tag onto this, a question ... my husband is driving my friend and I to our surgery and back a few days later. We drove my Ford Expedition down for the consult and planned to do the same for the surgery - but I'm wondering if it will be hard for both of us to get into the SUV (its standard height, but still a grab and step up (I'm used to it, but can't fathom trying to do it with stitches). If anyone has any experience, can you let me know?

My friend has a Sienna minivan and I'm wondering if that wouldn't be a better choice.

Trisha, you would be better off with the mini van. It will be hard to pull yourself up in the SUV, I don't think I could have, I had trouble just getting to the car.

My doctor didn't really say anything about driving, and I only took two pain pills after I left the clinic. I was driving the second day after surgery. BUT, I noticed a real difficulty in concentrating for a couple weeks afterwards, especially if I was tired or driving at night. In fact, three weeks after the surgery I drove off the road. Just lost a few seconds to La La Land and BAM! I have NEVER done that before and so I'm attributing it to the surgical anaesthetic. Either that, or Alzheimer's!

I had surgery at 11 AM and a friend drove me home in her little Honda....no problem....I did take a pillow with me ....

My parents drove me to their house in a Trailblazer. I thought it worked well because I didn't have to bend over so much to get in and I was able to sprawl out across the seat. Take a pillow regardless of which car. You can hold it against your stomach if you have to move and it helps.

I would have felt ok enough to drive two days after the surgery but I too was on pain meds once in a while so I think I drove on the 4th day
