Hi. I had my RNY on Friday and ugh, I’m feeling it. I’m so bruised and swollen and when I drink I feel like I’m just swallowing a ton of air- even though I know I’m not. It all just hurts. I’m having trouble finishing motivation and making my fluids. Advice? Thanks. -Jenn

you are allowed to scream, you are allowed to cry, you are even allowed to question why., But the one thing you are not allowed to do is Give Up, do,t,look behi,d you are no longer going that way. Even if your steps seem to falter, have faith in yourself, be gentle , be sure kind to yourself as you heal. Day by day you will get stronger, you will find your strength as your life starts to,balance out. And be,proud of how far you have come already. and those foundations will help you in your post-surgery life. Up i can do it , my friendc you can really do it and do it well. God Bless.

First off, yay you! You're on the loser's bench now!

The pain is real, especially the gas pain. A realization that I came to a couple of days after surgery was that I had to relax my body, sort of giving my body permission or reminding it to pass the gas.

And as everyone says, sip sip sip and walk walk walk. This too shall pass!

It's okay, it gets better. Just breathe. And drink. You don't want to get dehydrated.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. This time directly after surgery SUCKS! But from what I've heard, the worst of it (which is the gas trying to leave your body while ripping your shoulder and right side with it), is the same for any type of laproscopic surgery. The surgeon/doctor who figures out how to fix the whole gas problem deserves the Nobel Prize in Medicine!

My surgery was also on Friday, and I agree with you, recuperation at the beginning is painful. It’s a daily struggle for me to get my fluids in, sometimes I get nauseous, and my stomach weighs me down, because I’m still swollen. I truly think in a few more weeks, we’ll feel better.

It's the hardest time, first few weeks after surgery. I had my RNY on 11/28/18 - just hit 6 months post op. I remember that first week SO vividly! I cried, I stomped my feet, I even felt a bit of regret. But all that was quickly replaced with joy and a sense of accomplishment once I started to see my body heal and lose the weight. You can do this!! Believe me!! Trust the process and you will succeed!

Wow everyone! Thank you so much for all the support and encouragement. I appreciate it so much! I’m now 5 days out and I feel so much better. I’ve figured out what works for me and thinks are getting better. I see my doctor today and I’m hoping he advances my diet, because to be honest, I am soooo over Jello and popsicles!! 🤢 you guys really helped me. Thank you thank you thank you!

It is frustrating and it feels like it's such a stretch to drink! I'm 12 days out! I'm still sore on my left side but it's getting easier. I'm in the pureed stage and some soft foods. I'm just working it and looking towards the light and the goal. I also wanna share that I detest my Flintstone's vitamins! [emoji15][emoji20]

My surgeon gave me sooo many Vitamins that it is almost impossible to take them during the day. My stomach basically isn't just that big. So instead I'm using what my nutritionist recommended and taking one pill (especially made for bariatric needs) four times a day instead. At least that one can be dissolved in Water. The rest are horse pills.

I completely understand, because I take other meds for other reasons and it's next to impossible to get all these pills down in a day! Since I can't have extended release after the bypass, that's nearly doubled my daily pill intake. 😞🤢

Oh I guess I was one lucky puppy, my meds do come in a SR form, between my Bariatric clinic and PCP It didn't take long to get it straightened out. Mind you , I still feel lijevi am taking an b ungodly amount. The one I have trouble working in is The Calcium, hard finding a time. with a two-hour gap between the Iron, Multivitamin and food to squeeze it o

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
