Dang! I gotta learn to read! See, I read it that the OP was 4 weeks out and just on soft foods. :) So I offered all my advice based on that construct. :) Good times! Proves shmos on the internet should not give specific advice to anyone--you just gotta work your program! :D

Its all good.

Please also realize that the sugar in the fruit (unprotected by Protein eaten first) really jacks your insulin levels up. You do not want this. First of all, once the insulin crashes your blood sugar, you will feel hungry and can start a yo-yo cycle of more fruit since your body will be craving sugar at that point. Second, insulin drives calories into fat storage. You don't want that, either. Like the others said, protein first, then non starchy veggies. Fruit only in small amounts AFTER protein is eaten. It is dessert - not the meal.

A calorie is not a calorie. 100 calories of sugar is very different than 100 calories of olive oil, or even 100 calories of chicken. Sugar/fruit will send your insulin levels way up there, as it responds to the increase in blood sugar. Oil will not raise insulin levels and protein will do so only minimally and slowly. Insulin spikes will not help you lose weight.

You do not want to lose lean protein from your muscles. That will only lower your metabolism in the long run. You want to BUILD muscle mass, and on a restricted caloric intake, the only way is to get your protein requirement in. You also need enough protein to heal well. The guidelines from my doctor are as follows for men: 60 inches tall (5 ft): 70-75 gm/day. 66 inches (5'6"): 75-80 gms. 77 inches (6'4"): 80-90 gm.

Well, I guess everyone's not perfect. Oh well, judge away, but a bowl of fruit is not the same as big portions, buffets, and greasy fried food, no matter your unusual logic.

I dont understand why so many people are cheating already on there diet plan. The first year after you had gastric sleeve you should be soo strict to lose as much as u can and then maintain for life. It seems like all the people eatting the foods that got them fat are just going straight back to the crap. There all going to be back to there heaviest fat weight in know time thinking its ok to cheat with junk food all the time. Even eatting a bunch of fruit that would just in time doing that often enough u will just stretch ur stomach back. I get in time ur stomach will stretch alittle being able to eat more but why would u want to start the stretching of it so fast. Humm doesn't seem smart. I know 7 people who have had weight loss surgery and 6 of them gained it all back cuz they kept testing there limits and eating big portions and it got out of control before they new it. Only 1 of them has kept the weight down and she has to work at it and fluctuates with 10pounds. I guess doin this surgery for me ment i was saying good buy to big portions and buffets i was saying good buy to greasy fried food not just telling my self in moderation because i know myself u have a bite of something so yummy u crave it then its on ur mind then u eat more. Sorry for venting i just dont understand peoples heads if there already cheating off there diet plan didnt they just spent hundreds, thousands of dollars on there surgery it doesnt make sence.

I see this is your first post. We generally try to keep our tones a bit more kind here. Also, there's a great browser extension called Grammarly. I highly recommend it to you.

Because many diet plans look exactly like the idiotic crash diets so many of us were on before WLS maybe?

In order to get so fat that you need bariatric surgery you need to have a some kind of disordered eating behaviour. Whether that's legitimate food addiction or long term poor eating habits.
This eating behaviour develops ovet a long period of time and is a powerful psychological influence.
A calorie deficit diet is hard for anyone, let alone those with disordered eating behaviour.
Just because we've had the surgery and removed the physiological stimulus to over eat or make poor food choices, doesn't mean the thoughts and behaviour change.
It's HARD.

The real insanity is that this is about a bowl of fruit. Like anyone of us got fat because we ate too much fruit.

LOL.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
