Get to your clinic and get an IV, dehydration is nothing to fool around with. Once you are in that state it is difficult to rehydrate yourself.

Try warm weak tea, it relaxes the esophagus and muscles. Sip all day, seriously all day, glue that cup or bottle to your hand. Are you eating? Try Soup.

I’m 2 days post op and I’m struggling to get fluids down as well. I can’t even imagine trying to drink a Protein Shake right now.

Also also try the Premier Protein Clear drinks. This is second week out and initially it was the only thing I could drink for the first few days. They are it thick and easy to sip on.

It was easier to get in warm liquids (broth), a bit at a time. We picked up a little one cup hot plate (I think they are usually for keeping tea warm). It was really helpful.

I know this post is old but I had gastric surgery on 7/2/19 and it hurts every time I sip on anything. I’m freaking out about getting dehydrated but I can’t “stomach” the pain 🤦‍♀️

Does your dr know that you can't tolerate even sips? My dr wouldn't discharge me from hospital until I could manage 3-4 oz within an hour. I think you should contact your bariatric team asap and let them know what's going on with your body.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
