JanJan19 205 Posted May 24, 2019 Can anyone tell me if this was similar for them? I see so many "I feel great!" posts. ' I've been miserable since waking up 18 hours ago. I went into this not worried about the pain at all. I had ankle surgery with a plate & screws about 5 years ago - was told that would be painful & it wasn't at all. So I think maybe I was cocky going in. It doesn't feel like gas. The incision spots don't hurt at all, it all seems to be coming from the actual stomach. Every movement is torture. They gave me morphine but it made me nauseous. I've had two does of IV Tylenol. Did anyone else feel this miserable & how long does it last? I cannot get comfortable. GradyCat 3,695 Posted May 24, 2019 I'm so sorry you're not feeling well. I had no pain after surgery, just nausea for the first 24 hours. I think it all gets better after the first day, so hang in there. 1 JanJan19 reacted to this
Shanda_2019 77 Posted May 24, 2019 I had surgery on Wednesday and as soon as I was able to stand up I took off walking. You have to walk to move the gas pain around. I’m still very sore and needed help to stand, but I knew I had to push through the pain. Make sure you ask for pain meds to make you comfortable and try to walk as soon as you can. I hope you feel better soon, take care. 3 Ohcinders, JanJan19 and gabybab reacted to this

I had surgery on Monday there was some pain but the nurse told me if I walk the hallway it will help with the pain so I walked soon as I was put in a room. It helped with the gas pain as well. GreenTealael 25,439 Posted May 24, 2019 (edited) I was in pain post op for nearly 2 weeks straight then it just stopped. I also did not respond traditionally to morphine (my meds were changed then rotated between tramadol/toridol and hydrocodone but still no measurable relief) Its major surgery. For this one you may have a lower threshold of pain. I would contact my Surgeon/Team and advocate for other types of pain meds until you find one rhat works. But watch carefully and if the pain get worse over time instead of better, you develop a fever, feel terrible in multiple ways, etc let them know immediately. Good luck 💙 Edited May 24, 2019 by GreenTealael 1 JanJan19 reacted to this
BrighterSide 242 Posted May 24, 2019 I had horrendous pain in front of my shoulder and radiating down. The kind of pain you pant through and nothing short of morphine was touching the sides. Wasn’t constant though. Flared when I moved. Especially when pushing up the bed or sitting down after a walk. Disappeared near end of day after surgery.Pain around your stomach might not be gas pain. As them to check with your surgeon.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 JanJan19 reacted to this
Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted May 24, 2019 The surgery is major surgery, the organs were very manipulated. Walk as much as you can and stay hydrated, warm weak tea was better than anything cold. Keep doing the IV Tylenol and anything else non-morphine. But walk and walk. Try to notice exactly where the pain is, and if it decreases or increases before or after movement, keep a little chart. The only pain I had was just to the left of the stomach up high. The stomach is quite high up, and it was probably due to the hernia repair. Did you have a hernia repaired? Hang in there. 1 JanJan19 reacted to this
Boldilocks 312 Posted May 24, 2019 I was in awful pain - and my surgeon refused to give me anything stronger than tylenol. My mum, bless her wee heart, was so upset that she Fedexed her own hydrocodone to me. Which you are not meant to do, obviously. But you never stop being a mum, I guess. After about 5-7 days it was more manageable with over the counter pain meds. It is definitely major surgery - the incisions look like 6 stab wounds, and wouldn't you feel sore after that? Hang in there - and keep on at your team until they find medication that works for you! I hope you're feeling better soon! 2 JanJan19 and gabybab reacted to this
froufrou 678 Posted May 24, 2019 Ask for Dilaudid - worked better than morphine for me. 1 JanJan19 reacted to this

I decided itching might be the lesser of evils & my pain is down considerably. 1 gabybab reacted to this
JanJan19 205 Posted May 24, 2019 Thanks everyone. I'm finally feeling a bit better. Pain was an 8, I think it's down to a 4 with a new painkiller. Taking laps around the hospital & finally got Water & apple juice. 3 Boldilocks, gabybab and MrsGamgee reacted to this

There is no reason why you should be left in so much pain, and it certainly won't aid you in healing. 2 JanJan19 and gabybab reacted to this
gabybab 696 Posted May 24, 2019 I was in horrible pain and it lasted for 10 days, although it got better by a week or so. I'm so glad my Dr gave me plenty of pain medication. I was on it round the clock for at least 5 days. I hope you feel better soon! 1 JanJan19 reacted to this
