Loop Duodenal Switch vs Duodenal Switch SADI-S

Recommended Posts

Are these the same things? I am trying to do more research on the procedure but I keep finding it called Loop Duodenal Switch or Duodenal Switch and was wondering if they are different procedures or the same one. Thank you for any help! Plus if you've had it, I would really like to know if you had any complications!

@livefatdreamskinny The loop is the same as the Sips, Sadi, single anastomosis.

The traditional, full or double-anastomosis is different aka duodenal switch.

@jdmcappo @Lady98 would love love to hear anythng you have to say about your surgery. I am a VSG revision candidate and I’m sick aboit my weight regain.

Did you both revise or do the Loop in one operation? Do you feel confident you can keep the weight off? VSG regain is about 50% and I can’t find any numbers on the loop regain. Were you concerned about the lack of long term data with the loop? And also does your surgeon perform both and encouraged you to do the single not double?

I live in Boston and there are no surgeons that do the full DS and the one I currently go to has only done 3 loops.

Lastly has your life changed drastically? Can you go out to dinner without needing a bathroom break? Are there things you avoid socially otherwise that make you regret having the loop done?

Thank you SO MUCH for any advise as I make this decision!

@onmyway11Condider coming to NY if you want the SIPS. Dr. Roslin at Lenox Hill Hospital has done a ton of them.

I had the loop DS done in Colorado, my surgeon here has been doing then for several years. Happy to chat more in DM.

I'm only just starting week 4, but I've been out for Breakfast (fried egg and mashed chicken sausage patty, only ate a third of the patty), coffee (decaf late with skim milk, no sweetener), and lunch (Qdoba, mini bowl with chicken, pinto Beans, fajita veggies and guac, couldn't even eat half), and have tolerated all of that just fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
