I read posts on restriction being tight in the morning and loosing by evening. Am I the only one in the world that is the opposite. I have 5ccs and have had restriction from day one. I eat a good Breakfast, lunch and snack but come dinner time NOTHING goes down easily. The most I can get down is 2 oz of Protein. Any idea why?

Hi Doddie

I am like the others as well. I don't have to much time to really cook anything in the am so I have a Meal Replacement shake with added protien powder. That can take me thru to almost 4 pm (I know that's not good either). At nite though, once I start eating I can't stop. I really have to get that under control. I am going to see Jill the nutritionist this week. I am positive that I am eating around the band. I haven't lost anything in months.

I read that you had diabetic shock at aquafil. OMG are you alright? I think it's great that you can lower you meds but I think that it must be scary that something like that can happen anywhere anytime. How are you now?

Hi Donna D. Jill will most certainly help you. She has helped me and will be calling me every two weeks as long as I need to have her help. I do have to contact her though because she sent me a number of menus but no reciepts and I haven't a clue how to make them. LOL

Yes I am alright, but drop in glucose readings can happen quickly. I was in the pool and after 1/2 hour of exercise I told the lady next to me how sleepy I felt. Then in a few minutes I couldn't see very clearly so I left the pool. On exit, the life guard was there to greet me asking me questions. I was confused and couldn't come up with the correct answers. He read the medic alert Bracelet and saw I was diabetic so he gave me sugar Water. Within a few moments, I was as right as rain. Saw my doctor and he reduced the meds again. Now I am just on metformin and must take my readings before exercise and after.

I am thrilled to be off another med that the scare I had seems such small matter to deal with.

Thanks for asking. I lost another 1 lb in November. That is all I seem able to do. I average .85 lbs a week and I keep a loose fill of 5 ccs. As for you, I think Jill will tell you the same. You must eat more Protein. She recommended to me to mix some protein mix in with food/drink. That nesttea you recommended to me is where I plan to put it.

Take care and I hope the scales start moving downward for you soon. Doddie

You are all getting me scared. I was just banded on 11/20 and wont get a fill until 4 more weeks. Is this what I have to look forward to? I feel restricted already without any saline?! Is that normal? Am I about to get a rude awakening here?

Tanya, don't fret. Everyone is different . Most of us tend to feel a bit tight in the morning. It's not so bad- Protein shake instead of Breakfast does the trick.

I felt a bit restricted after my surgery, but before the first fill. Also, it has required very little Fluid in my band to restrict me- only 2.5 cc in a 10 cc band. But as I said, every person, and every band, is different.

Know that you have done a really good thing for yourself. Your journey as a bandster has just begun. Just obey the Band Rules... you'll do fine.

Thanks..looks like you have done great! When were you banded?

July 5, 2007.

Some days are better than others, you will find. I've gained 4 lbs. and don't have the heart to change my banner. Sometimes even we "seasoned veterans" backslide a bit. But honestly, Tanya, the general course is downward, and even with the tough times, you will not regret having this done. :clap2:

I have had 5 fills and at 9 cc's and NO RESTRICTION... I am so pissed.

I called to get a FLOuro done so see if my band is leaking and was told NO!~

"Lots of patients need more than 9 cc in their 10 cc band (actually holds 13) to feel restriction" ... what?

I feel really jyped and disappointed. What recourse do I have?

I too get tighter with my period. I have the mid band and am at 8.75cc. I am definitely on the loose side now. I think as time passes I am losing some of my restriction. I can eat about 2.5 cups of food, however as I am still loosing I am not overly concerned about it. What I wanted to emphasize was the importance of chewing thoroughly. I can feel full or get stuck with only a spoon of food if I don’t chew well. I sometimes chew each bite for more than 20 times. Just something to keep in mind when discussing fill levels.

I would ask for another fluo. I correspond with a 2 gals who went back numerous times to there doctor and had fluos and each time was told there was no problem. HOWEVER, THERE WAS. The doctors each time eventually found it. The only way they found it was to do a complete defill and find out how much Fluid the band had. Guess what! The bands were totally empty. So ask for a complete defill and ask the docs to measure the amount of fluid that comes out. If they say you have 9ccs, you should have 9ccs come out. Doddie

There was an excellent post about stress and the band posted here about a year ago. If you can find it, it will tell you why you go through these periods of tightness.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
