Gainesville Fl Medicaid?

Recommended Posts

I’m from Jacksonville FL and no one in Jax accepts Staywell Medicaid for the surgery. I was told that the closest place that accepts it is Gainesville. Has anyone had WLS and Medicaid with a Gainesville surgeon? If so, I’d like to know so I can get a new referral sent out!

uf & shands Gainesville does except it. but they have changed their policy, you can see dr (consult) once approved refer sent in..then afterwards you must complete req test before you can shed surgery. you basically see dr one time then at your surgery. im still researching myself and in beginning stages. but luckily my s-n-l is also having the procedure and just saw them today so she has been keeping me in the loops I can get ahead of the game. basically what im doing is doing all the test that are required then asking for a consult and suppling them with everything they need that day. so I would only have to do the pshy and nutrition side for them.

That’s where I ended up getting a referral for. I have my consult with Dr. Ayzengart on July 8th. I have 3 or 4 of my weight checks, so I’ll just need a couple more. Do you happen to know all the requirements they want? I’m almost done with my 6 consecutive months of documented weightloss attempts.

I know the 6 months but im not certain yet if it has to be back to back months. Luckily my S-N-L is also getting the surgery and she just went yesterday. She said an ekg, blood work, a dye test (which im trying to clarify as can be multiple things) I'm also trying to get ahead of the game so to speak. I'm having my pcp do all my test then send over another ref because she made a typo on original ref so it got pushed back.So when I go in ill have basically everything done and will only have to do the pshy and nutr with them. This is my list for test that i'm requesting from pcp and shouldn't take to long maybe a month to get done. EKG,Sleep study, complete blood count(CBC), kidney, liver&blood sugar test, chest x-ray,heart stress test and lung function test. Covering all my basics and no of these can hurt your process only help you. As I know some of these are going to come back as abnormal. ex: stress test, sleep study. keep in touch so we can help each other along the way. oh and get into a support group now!! their meetings are every 3rd Thursday 6:30-7:30. This Thursday is actually one. gives you huge brownie points with surgeons.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
