What to have at home after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I have my date and when I start my liquid diet and I’m so excited and I know the basics.. but I was hoping I could get some of your must haves or anything that made post op a little easier or kept you sane. I know there’s broths and sugar free Jello and popsicles.. but I just wanna hear what everyone else had or advice or any good recipes! I’m all ears! I have tons of Protein Powder, Unjury Protein in chicken broth flavor, a bought little 2.5 ounce cups with lids..

This is a great question. I look forward to hearing some answers. I was thinking I will have some Bone Broth. Did anyone have their spouse/relative make some stock for them?

Non-caffeinated tea felt gentle to my stomach after I'd been home a few days and was a good change of pace from Water and broth. Also, a nice comfy blanket. I soon found that I was much colder after surgery once the insulation starting falling off! Best of luck to you.

And it still doesn't for me, maybe if it's ice cold I can take it, I drink Nestle Splash flavors but my ❤ belongs to strawberry Kiwi Propel, that's the taste for me!

An accurate kitchen scale. I had one I had been using for months and the day before surgery it started acting wonky. Just needed a new battery but it hadn't been on my radar and I had to send my hubs on a battery hunt the day after I got home.

I was sure to have a variety of liquids available. I had Gatorade Zero, Decaf sugar free Iced Tea, Diet Snapple Peach Tea, decaf coffee, and crystal light flavor packets for my Water. I also lived on sugarfree popsicles for a while.

Oh 2 ounce plastic cups are helpful for sipping. I got mine from Amazon. My next purchase is 4 ounce as I will be returning to work.

only my opinion,

I would use a scale in your first months. After you learn portion sizes, calories/macros, and real food plan, you can rely less on a scale. My fitnesspal or baritastic. Food logging has been eye opening and the best tool to get me to goal and maintaining.

There are bariatric websites for recipes.

Freeze leftovers in small portions for easy quick meals.

Anyone try Stur? I love it! No aspartame or sucralose.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
