Feeling Hopless...:(

Recommended Posts

I'm currently 4.5 months post op... I've lost 60lbs overall from pre-OP to now...and I'm at a stall. I'm finally able to drink a bit of coffee...I get all my Protein in and I workout 4 times a week and the scale wont move. I'm so disheartened...I even took a few bites of pizza today and I regret it so much. I feel like I'll never actually be less than obese...any advice and encouragement would help. Thanks so much in advance.

First thing is don't beat yourself up. You're going to slip up every now and then. As long as it's not all the time, that's what counts. You're human, and you're going to make mistakes. How long have you been in this stall? How many calories are you eating? How much Water are you drinking?

It's NORMAL! I was in a stall from Month 4 to Month 5 - a whole MONTH! But now the scale is moving again. I was beating myself up even though I knew I was doing everything right with eating, exercising, Protein, and Water. It just happens. Stalls are a NORMAL part of the weight loss process. I think Month 4 is a natural stall point while the body catches up. Don't worry. Be patient. It's not over.

Is that the correct surgery date on your profile? Because if so, you are only 3.5 months out, not 4.5. I know because I had my surgery the day after you, LOL! And how much have I lost? 30lbs - half as much as you! It sucks to compare yourself to others, and that way madness lies - but if you are going to insist on doing it, compare yourself to me. You are absolutely flying!! You are doing wonderfully well!

I stalled over a month. Slowly starting the downward cycle. 2 bites of pizza not gonna kill ya. We have to adjust to. Lifestyle but we do get to do normal. Concentrate on healthy eating. Watch your carb, fiber and calorie count not a fast journey but one that for us requires journaling exercise and food monitoring . Enjoy your journey. Be positive!!

I had my surgery Jan 31st. I had a good loss the first few weeks. The scale barely moves after that. I lose once a month after my period around 2-4 lbs. However, I find that my clothes fit better even when the scale doesn't budge. So maybe concentrate on inches not weight. It took time to put on the weight, hence it will take time to put it off.

Maybe you need to up your calories? My dr keeps telling me to get more calories but I just can’t seem to get over 900-1000. She wants me to get at least 1200-1300. I’m almost 6 months out and the weight loss is slowing but not yet stalled. I’ve been losing about 2 lbs a week for the last month or two. Better than nothing though!

Stalls, stressors, medical catastrophes & unfortunate events can happen at any time it seems (and usually the worst time possible) but the way you handle them may make all the difference in how you feel about what comes next.

Hopefully you can find ways to manage your mood that ultimately makes you feel empowered, healthy, healed and helps you along in your journey, (but never hopeless)💜

I hear ya! Right after surgery I lost a bunch of “water weight” but in the four weeks following, hardly a pound is gone! Sorry if this is TMI but I have averaged only 1 bm per week, too. I think it’s all just piling up in my intestines, waiting for the dam to break.

You aren't going to see the pounds falling off everyday. It just doesn't work like that. You just need to stick to your program. You' have a diet and you need to follow it. You're working out 4 days a week, which is great. Keep at it and when you exercise make sure you are giving it 100% effort. Dial up you effort on the diet to 100% going forward. You can't worry about what you did yesterday, worry about what you're going to do tomorrow. Plan your meals in advance and track your calories. You're body is going to stall. I had a 2 month stall on the scale, but during that time I lost 1.5" off my waist and 1.8% body fat. Eventually the scale started to move in the right direction again. The one thing you can't afford to do is to let the scale discourage you and react by getting depressed and blowing your diet. pizza is definitely not your friend!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
