Today is day 10 of my pre-op high Protein mostly liquid diet. I've done pretty darn good up until 3 hours ago. I've lost 11 pounds and have truly stuck to this except for two bites of hot dog 2 nights ago. Tonight we went to some friends house and I forgot to bring my Water, my Soup and an Optifast drink. I wAS craving normal food so bad that I just ate. I didn't over eat but I ate. I ate 2 chicken drumettes with terriyaki sauce, some homemade mac and cheese, 2 chips with salsa, and 1 bite of a bratt dipped in mustard plus a couple glasses of red wine..... Is this the end of the world????? I hope not......How does a person just give up food completely....I m a cook who loves to cook this is the whole reason I am going for the lap band instead of the gastric bypass...if I want a glass of wine I should be able to have one....I don't want to live on warm cottage cheese the rest of my life.... I want variety...just in small portions. Day 10 of my liquid diet has been a complete failure..... but.... is it really? Has anybody else ever slipped off their pre-op liquid diet? I need some support here

Thanks in advance

Heidi,

Don't sweat it. You still ate protien, and a little mac n' cheese won't kill you. Don't beat yourself up. You still watched what you ate and did not over indulge, make today a new day and get back to it.

Hi All,

I am looking at getting banded in late Sept. I will be at the informational meeting on 9/3/08 at Dr. Trotter's office. After a fairly long battle with Group Health (it was an exclusion) I have now turned my energy in paying for it myself. I was looking at the total bypass before but now that I have to pay, the band is more affordable. I have read the threads since December of 2007 and really thought what a great group of support on this forum. I am 43, married, mom of 2 and grandmother of 2. Thank you for the opportunity to read your thoughts, encouragment, advise, frustrations and words of support. I hope to meet some if not all of you as I continue on my journey to become healthy again!

My name is Jean. I was banded Feb.2007 in Post Falls by Dr.Pennings.

My weight loss has been slow, but pretty steady. I had type 2 diabetes

that is gone! My b/p is much better and I feel like a new person. My energy levels have gone through the roof. I am just sorry that I didn't have the band placed sooner. It is good to see other people from near my area. I am in the southeastern corner of Wa. in Clarkston.

Jean

There is a lap-band support group meeting the third wednesday of every month for bandsters in the Spokane/North Idaho area. We meet at 7 pm at the Starbucks in Liberty Lake, WA.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
