3-Month Post-Op Appt - (Gastric Sleeve)

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if I'm on track or if I'm being too hard on myself so I'm fishing for other people's results I guess you could say. I had VSG on 2/20/2019. I was 273 that morning at the hospital but came home at 279 from fluids (I suppose since it surely wasn't from eating :D). Today I am 231. There have been several days of no movement on the scale, which discourages me because I know I'm not eating much so it's frustrating! I have my 3-month post-op appt. on Monday and am hoping to see 229, which would be 44 pounds according to their scales since 2/20/2019. Granted, I've never lost 44 pounds in 3 months so I'm pleased but I'm just curious.

I had VSG on Feb 6th and have lost 37 lbs, which is slow compared to a lot of others on this forum but as long as the scale is going in the right direction, then I'm ok with it :) Plus it gives my skin a chance to catch up with me (or so I hope!)

I have lots of days the scale doesn't move, and then suddenly it'll drop a pound. While I weigh myself daily I try not to tally the amount lost until the end of the week, which I think has helped with not driving myself crazy

Focus on that!

Anyone else's results are irrelevant! :)

You can't compare yourself to others because they start at different weights, have different metabolisms, etc. You're doing GREAT, you're ROCKING IT!

Keep it up! Everyone is different. It takes time. Make sure your tricking your body too. Park far from work and home every other day if you can. Small things to keep you active helps keep your body's clock guessing. It helps.

Thank you for the suggestions and encouragement. P.S. My husband is a meat cutter/butcher as well :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
